Nobody cares about craftsmanship!!! ...... I purchased an Ontario Knife Company "Rat 3" fixed blade at a large sporting goods store in Cedar Park, Texas today ...... I spent $75.00 on this piece of trash ...... (Which is $11.00 more than our nation's largest online retailer charges for the exact same knife) ...... The Rat 3 is supposed to be a good knife ...... WRONG!!!

1. The blade had a giant blemish on it.
2. The blade is as DULL as a bowling ball.
3. The nylon case that comes with this knife is (As ALL nylon cases are) a disgusting waste of money. Nylon and plastic cases NEVER fit the knife correctly ...... NEVER.

My knife purchasing experience has been horror-filled ...... Every single knife that I have purchased online has either been broken ... discolored ... case didn't fit ... etc.

((((((HELP))))))

Is there ANY knife company that cares about quality and craftsmanship??? ...... I haven't found one ...... Not one single knife company (that I have purchased from) cares about craftsmanship ...... Buck ... Ontario Knife Company ... Mantis ... Morakniv ... Columbia River Knife & Tool ... Schrade ... Benchmade ... Yes ... even Benchmade ...... I have purchased a knife from every one of these companies ...... Every single one of these companies has sold me a knife that was damaged ... off-center ... broken handle ... sheath didn't fit ... dull ... etc.

It takes the breath right out of your lungs when a company such as Benchmade or Ontario Knife Company sells you a knife that is indistinguishable from a ghetto gas station knife ...... What has happened to the knife industry??? ...... Nobody is even trying to build a quality product ...... YES ...... I am officially ANGRY!!! ...... I am tired of wasting money on substandard knives from worthless knife companies who Just ... Don't ... Care.

So you bought a knife at a store, apparently without looking at it, and are unhappy with your purchase. Why not just return it and buy something else?

The production knives available today are generally better and more diversified then they have ever been. It should be easy to find something that you like, or even to have something made to your taste by one of the many mid-tech and custom makers.

AdamFuzzyballs AdamFuzzyballs ...... When I get ripped off once ...... I just get over it ...... When I get ripped off over and over again ...... I get angry ...... I am tired of driving back to the store and returning things ...... I am tired of waiting for things to come in the mail ... Arriving broken ...... And then having to send them back ...... I want to purchase a knife that a craftsman cared about and put some work into ...... I have a right to be angry when nobody cares about quality.

There are a plethora of great companies out there but will require spending more dosh$$$

Maybe save up and buy customs.
Customs are awesome!

I'm definitely reading some criticism of my rant ...... However ...... NOBODY has named a knife company that cares about quality ...... Is it really that difficult to name even one knife company that cares about quality? ...... Can nobody name a knife company in which craftsmen pay attention to detail?

All my ZT's have been perfect, my Reate and my Olamic is flawless, all my Spydercos came centered, only one had minor blade play which I remedied in 2 minutes. My WE Zeta came perfect. Admittedly I am not a fixed blade guy, so I can't help there.
/Edit, my only two fixed blades are an old SOG Seal 2000 which came sharp and with even coating/no marks and a good Kydex Sheath, and a Fox FS Dagger, which came with a nice leather sheath, good Fit and Finish, but it's dagger dull.

If you're buying from a brick-and-mortar store and the knife isn't in clamshell packaging, maybe ask to check the knife before you buy it? If you purchase from a good online dealer, try calling them before ordering and ask them to check the knife for certain things (edge grinds, action, centering, proper lockup, or whatever else YOU want the knife to have done right). If they're a good online dealer, that won't be a problem.

If every single knife you've bought from every single company has been horrible, I don't know what to say. Spending more on higher-end knives might not make you any happier.

What are your expectations for $30?

Also, weezer, care to elaborate what was wrong with your Mora(s) ? I'm genuinely curious since it seems like such a simple straight forward designed knife and sheath that I can't see anything being wrong with it?

Buy a Buck 119.
If it's not great ( it will be ) Buck will make it right, they care about craftsmanship and stand behind their excellent products.
Seriously, you have to let them know they made a mistake and if you're not a dick in your communications with them they will absolutely take care of you.
Buck = great service with a smile.

Victorinox also cares about craftsmanship and almost always produces a perfect knife.

Now just know that a lemon can and will make it off of the line for anything mass produced, I'd call Ontario and have them take care of you if you aren't happy.

Again, lemons happen but you gotta give a reputable manufacturer the chance to make it right.
Its always best to buy a product of any kind that you can inspect in person.

I guess you have crap luck.

I bought a CRKT Swindle for $30? $40? something like that and it was a fine example of quality mass production. Smooth, functional, no burrs, etc. I then bought a Buck trapper for my nephew, opened it up to make sure it was sharp and in good shape. After a few swipes on a diamond stone it was well put together. I can nit pick it, the spey blade does not snap open as positively as the clip blade, but for $15.00 dollars or so I'm good with that.

Here ya go,

Bradford knives
Chris Reeve Knives
Great Eastern Cutlery
Hinderer Knives
Lion Steel Knives
Moki
Olamic Cutlery
Opinel
Protech Knives
Randell
Southard Knives
Spartan Blades
Spyderco
Zero Tolerance

That’s a few that care about quality, there’s more but this is a good start

All 10 of my benchmades have been basically perfect. All 5 or 6 Spydercos have been perfect. My one ZT was perfect, just too small for my hands. Like, check the damn knives before buying them lol.

I’ve bought perfect specimens from every one of those companies and from online sources. There have been a few misses too. Maybe a imperfect grind from ontario or schrade or some other problem. Nothing that wasn’t rectified by the store or the company. Then there are the plenty of other production companies that i have gotten nothing but quality
