Nobody cares about craftsmanship!!! ...... I purchased an Ontario Knife Company "Rat 3" fixed blade at a large sporting goods store in Cedar Park, Texas today ...... I spent $75.00 on this piece of trash ...... (Which is $11.00 more than our nation's largest online retailer charges for the exact same knife) ...... The Rat 3 is supposed to be a good knife ...... WRONG!!!

1. The blade had a giant blemish on it.
2. The blade is as DULL as a bowling ball.
3. The nylon case that comes with this knife is (As ALL nylon cases are) a disgusting waste of money. Nylon and plastic cases NEVER fit the knife correctly ...... NEVER.

My knife purchasing experience has been horror-filled ...... Every single knife that I have purchased online has either been broken ... discolored ... case didn't fit ... etc.

((((((HELP))))))

Is there ANY knife company that cares about quality and craftsmanship??? ...... I haven't found one ...... Not one single knife company (that I have purchased from) cares about craftsmanship ...... Buck ... Ontario Knife Company ... Mantis ... Morakniv ... Columbia River Knife & Tool ... Schrade ... Benchmade ... Yes ... even Benchmade ...... I have purchased a knife from every one of these companies ...... Every single one of these companies has sold me a knife that was damaged ... off-center ... broken handle ... sheath didn't fit ... dull ... etc.

It takes the breath right out of your lungs when a company such as Benchmade or Ontario Knife Company sells you a knife that is indistinguishable from a ghetto gas station knife ...... What has happened to the knife industry??? ...... Nobody is even trying to build a quality product ...... YES ...... I am officially ANGRY!!! ...... I am tired of wasting money on substandard knives from worthless knife companies who Just ... Don't ... Care.

There's an easy, permanent solution to all your problems...

Here ya go,

Bradford knives
Chris Reeve Knives
Great Eastern Cutlery
Hinderer Knives
Lion Steel Knives
Moki
Olamic Cutlery
Opinel
Protech Knives
Randell
Southard Knives
Spartan Blades
Spyderco
Zero Tolerance

That’s a few that care about quality, there’s more but this is a good start

Ajack60 made a good list for you. For your fixed blade needs I would also add LT Wright and Bark River. Also Dark Timber knives are excellent quality if you don’t mind being on a waiting list. The Ontario Rat series are excellent tools. Just like the KA-Bar/Becker line and Esee they are made for heavy use, not to display.

I see it over and over on countless forums. People chasing perfection are only setting themselves up for disappointment. People complain that their "enter whatever item you want" isn't perfect and proceed to rant about it.
I am familiar with Cedar Park and could meet with the OP to show him some nice knives ranging from a higher end Kizer, Benchmade, Lionsteel, and all the way to Shirogorov. Sorry, and no offense to the OP, but I wouldn't waste my time meeting up due to unrealistic expectations. I will be the first to admit that there are legitimate lemons floating around and the OP may have been unfortunate enough to end up with one on every purchase.

The Lionsteels I own are very nice knives. Centering and finish are fantastic but one rides on teflon washers so the action isn't ultra smooth and fast. The other rides on bearings but doesn't have an ideal thumb stud option. The Kizer is also very nice. Ceramic bearings, good blade steel without blems, flips like a rocket, but if you hold it wrong (being a frame lock) it won't open the same every flip. The Benchmade- good centering, assisted so it snaps open securely and consistently, great sharpness on M390, but this one had a very tiny flaw in the black blade finish. The Shiros have fantastic details and blade alignment, dare I say "perfect", but cost prohibitive and plain looking. Oops, I stand corrected, the bearings will fall out of the Shiro if you take it apart. See where this is going?
I am extremely happy with every knife I own because I am not chasing perfection. Plus, if I somehow managed to find perfection, I would no longer be able to use said item since it would no longer be perfect if I used it.
Again, perfection doesn't exist in a $30 knife, a $100K car, or a $10,000,000 home.

I should clarify a few things.

1. I have completely given up on trying to purchase folding knives ...... I do not believe that modern science has advanced far enough to construct a folding knife that is not CRAP ...... Benchmade single-handedly ruined the folding knife experience for me ...... I have looked at (approximately) twenty Benchmade knives at various stores in central Texas ...... Out of the twenty I looked at ...... Only TWO had blades that were centered ...... Buying a folding knife is like buying a lottery ticket ...... The chances of getting a winner are virtually nonexistent.

2. I will NEVER purchase another knife that comes with a plastic or nylon case ...... Unless ...... I am so in love with the knife that I am willing to throw the plastic/nylon case in the trash ...... (Which is where ALL nylon/plastic cases belong) ...... And purchase a leather case separately ...... When you put a $100 ... $200 ... $300 .... Knife in a plastic/nylon case ...... It makes the knife look cheap and trashy ...... There is no such thing as a nylon/plastic case that properly fits the knife it comes with ...... Science has not advanced that far yet ...... It is physically impossible to build a plastic/nylon case that will fit a knife properly ...... It can't be done ...... Leather (when constructed properly) is beautiful and it conforms to the knife ...... Plastic/nylon either causes the knife to get stuck in the case because its too tight ...... Or the knife is loose because the case is too big ...... We can send a man to the moon ...... We can elect a United States President with Facebook trolls ...... However ... We have not advanced far enough to build a plastic/nylon knife case that fits a knife.

That is the Gospel of weezer919 ...... Red letter edition ...... down from the mountain ...... onto the tablets ...... Hallelujah ...... Amen.

If you ARE a troll, you're not a very good one.

On the off-chance you aren't trolling, consider finding another hobby. You said it yourself: Since modern science hasn't advanced far enough for you, no knife produced by any maker or manufacturer will ever please you. You'll always find something to rant about. Maybe the knives have a conspiracy against you.
