Horsewright Knives and Leather

The original was getting a lil tired on this ol 05. He likes his beef real rare, Nichole and I are medium rare kinda folks and Nichole's mom who lives with us is a well done type. So it's a challenge to get it right for everybody. A trip tip is a great cut for that deal.
Thank you the insight into the time, effort and energy that goes into make one of your knives.
Is the adult beverages in the photo for the mechanic or camera person?

Thanks Dave for showing us the process, i'm sure i can speak for all who call in here that it is much appreciated. And you are correct, cooking meat for different peoples preferences is a task.
You are welcome! Agreed, that's why a trip tip is the perfect cut. Ya got the ends that are small and cook all the way through pretty quickly and the center swells inside and stays rare and in-between is the medium rare for us.

Yep that was for me.Josh prefers his whiskey with soda which he had one with dinner after they were done with the door. That's my Mestano hanging out watching over my Buffalo Trace!
I think that I am in love. That Mestano with the walnut handle scales is beautiful!
Thank you! It's tricky sometimes to get walnut to show up well on a smaller knife. It wants a bigger canvas sometimes. I was really pleased with how that one came out.

What are the specs on the rodeo? Size blade and overall length? Enough for a four finger grip? Cool seeing the process of putting it together.

I understand. I have a couple bottles of Trace in the cabinet I have yet to open. I need to remedy that
Heading over, I'll give ya a hand!

There are two in this batch, that I do seldom. Bandito top and the Rodeo bottom:

I would say definitely four fingers on both. Interesting tidbit about the Rodeo. Probably my least sold model which is why I don't make a lot of them. But.......it's also the model I'm gonna hear back from folks about how much they like it. There's a retired cowpuncher in AZ. He has over 80 of my knives! His EDC? A Rodeo. He says he's gonna will back the others to me so I can sell them again. A Locksmith in NJ has over 70 of my knives. Yep he carries a Rodeo. A buddy, without my knowledge, wore one to interview Bob Loveless for a Sporting Classics magazine article. Bob being Bob demands he take the knife and sheath off his belt. He examined/studied both for about an hour. Handed the knife back and said "This guy knows what he's doing." He looked at the sheath a bit longer and said: "This is the best designed and built sheath I have ever seen for hard, active use like riding, hunting or hiking." That was pretty cool, especially coming from Bob Loveless. But the Rodeo? Don't sell a bunch of them.

Thanks so much for the pics and comments, I enjoy hearing how your wares are used. Cool comment about Bob Loveless too.

Both look like winners to my eye. Good story about Bob Loveless and your knife/sheath combo.

How weird. It looks like a total winner to me.
Thanks guys. He offered to give me some tips on grinding too and sent an invitation to visit him back with my friend. Didn't make it down in time even though it was only a couple of hours away. He passed away in a few months. A regret I still have. I think part of it is for a "cowboy" knife its on the big side and many if not most of my customers are working cowboys, ranchers, buckaroos, horseman, looking for that knife that goes completely away until you need it. That being said if I remember correctly this cowboy has a Rodeo on above his left front pocket.

That's a Slot and Loop sheath which has been replaced by the Horizontal.

I expected that the size might be a detriment to those working in the saddle. For us boring old non-cowboys, they look great!

So, what is better, the Ranchero (you sold me) or Rodeo (that I'll be forced to buy next)? :p Especially since the Rodeo is just the exact size I asked for a few months back 🤔

You know I like the ones with the sharpening choil and bolster guard before the blade...

I don't know why you don't sell more of the Rodeos. It looks like it would fit right in among my most used knives.

Thanks!

Come on over my friend. I will show you around Michigan. Last time I was through the drive through cooler/liquor store they had a couple bottles on the shelf.
Ya bet! Might take a while long trotting on my horse but I'm enroute! Opened a bottle of Buillet Rye last night.

All part of my evil plan. Probably more that I forget. So out of that last batch of 103 AEB-L blades I had heat treated, maybe only 4 or 5 Rodeos, same with the Bandito. So I go through all my orders and get those blades ready for that batch then I start grabbing a handful of blades for In Stock. Literally kinda pawing through a box and oh there's that and how bout two of this and maybe one of those. Pure happenstance, I'm not smart enough to have an evil plan.

Hey Dave Horsewright Horsewright - You are welcome to post the latest knife that you are finishing/finished for me
PS: Yes, it's paid for 😂
Yes sir will do! Ready to be buffed here which is the latest. Didn't work in the shop yesterday (was our 19th Anniversary) and have the cutting lesson this morning so probably won't get into the shop until late afternoon. Larry's Ranchero is the knife pictured with the turqouise spacer:

Yes sir! Thank you.

Wow! That's a helluva good reason to discontinue that product! Good decision, even though we're the worse for it 😆

That’s a big compliment coming from Bob. I didn’t know him personally but I’ve heard the stories. And he built his knives for use, regardless of price.
