Horsewright Knives and Leather

Dave is a pleasure to communicate with and I really enjoyed requesting and receiving this Sonoran belt knife. Since its arrival, it is the only fixed blade knife that I have put on the belt. The AEB-L gets razor sharp and is easy to maintain in high humidity environments.

Could not be happier. Thanks Dave! And thanks Dwight Fodderwing Fodderwing for letting me coon finger yours last June! 😃

My wife ogled this one and remarked how she liked it so she got one for this past Christmas. 😆🤠👍🏻

I’ll get some pictures of it and post it up.

This one, Elk and Jasper:

Here’s my first and only Horsewright, but hopefully not my last. This is the Vaquero model with elk covers, brass bolsters, and mosaic pins. I suspect the lanyard tube is copper but I’m not positive. It’s just under 6” overall length which makes it easy to carry in the pocket or horizontal carry, which is what sheath was made for. I have this on my belt or at least with me on my desk at work most days of the week. It’s just a super sweet knife and I can’t say enough good things about it. I love it!

Beautiful knife! The elk and jasper work well together. 👍🤠

Your Vaquero sure is nice! 👍🤠

I love my Horsewright knives, and I frequently see ones posted here that I like; but they don't always show up as in stock when I look 😅 I like to get stainless steel blades that are closer to 3" than to 2", and I think my next handle might be elk with a jade spacer or something like that.

I always get two sheaths, the one made when the knife is made (packed away), and an extra sheath that would be small enough for front pocket carry.

Thank you sir that knife is a Vaquero in the 26C3 steel with a sheephorn handle and an ironwood spacer. The sheath is an older style Horizontal. I have a newer style now that rides a little flatter.

No sir it was a KaBar. Thanks!

Fantastic KaBar beautifully aged but just right in its 'new home', a sheath of dreams! 😍

Sheath for a Buck 110

Mrs Horsewright makes those sheaths. Interestingly we were just talking about bringing that style back and making them again as we hadn't made them in a while. Thats horsehide btw an excellent leather for that application. Horsehide has some different characteristics than cowhide and really shines in some applications. Reliably being able to get it is always a problem though. Look down. If you have leather boots or shoes on chances are they are horsehide. Most horsehide goes to the boot and shoe industry and thats why its hard for us to consistently get. Even when we can get it, its scrawny, unusually, shaped pieces called butt strips. What's left over after squaring the hides up for their main purpose.

Buckaroo Pouches. I find these very handy! 🤠

Another great use for the water buffalo leather. Mrs Horsewright makes those too. We sell a BUNCH of those. She'll make em up 10 or 12 at a time.

The Cowboy Toothpick is my favourite, when some spare cash(ever) turns up...;) Fantastic Horn on that one, Ram's Horn? Beautiful working knives all of them.

Thanks, Will
Here's one that I finished yesterday in 26C3. Its for a local cowboy/rancher friend. It passed its sharp test. I expect each knife to slice, with out dragging, this yellow paper. Normally I do three cuts and I'm checking the whole length of the edge feeling for drag. This one just fell through the paper.

Ya know, ya just never know how fast they'll go. Sometimes they disappear right away off the website and other times they sit around for a bit. No rhyme or reason. I gonna always play a game in my own head: which will be the first to go. I'm seldom right. My record btw and this is kinda crazy, but we put a batch up on the website and sold 12 in a half hour! Thats crazy! I do try to have some on the website at all times. Don't always acheive that but thats my goal.

Thank you sir for the kind words and to all you guys thank you for the kind words!

I haven't been fortunate enough to get one of his knives yet. If I can ever swing it I have some nice African Blackwood for the handle.

I have several of his buckaroo pouches and they are handy.

I think about Dave every time I drive through Tehachapi. Horsewright Horsewright if I am not mistaken you are located south of 58, correct?

Hey Dave, would a Buck 112 more than likely fit better in a large Buckaroo sheath? I assume it would be that one since it is only a little bit smaller than a Buck 110.

Yes sir. The ranch was on the north side but our house is on the south side. Kinda as you are just coming out the canyon coming up the hill on 58 and over a couple of miles. The ranch was all the flats behind Denny's there and the mountains behind. Next time you are coming through give me a heads up and stop by the shop and hang out for a while.

Horsewright Boot Sheath works with all my Horsewright Knives. I use it regularly.

Those guys are extremely popular too. Its another item we try to keep in stock at all times. Bout the time I get a handful built up it seems its time to make some more. Working on a batch of sheaths right now and have 7 of these guys to do too. The Boot Sheath is not knife specific. Works on bout anything 7-8 inches overall and I have made some real oversized one for folks too. These are lined in that water buffalo.

Yep I think it would work fine. The fit on a Buckaroo pouch isn't too critical. My own personal one has about a half inch of slack at the top. I just squeeze the bottom and the knife pops out. Lots of guys go the other way and have a knife sticking out and it works too.
I really like the variety of sheaths. Some beautiful work Dave.
Thank you sir!
