Horsewright Knives and Leather

It was kind of dicey there for a bit. She had a very small window at San Fransisco to catch her connecting flight but she made it.
Getting delayed a day did screw up a job interview she had too. She was able to reschedule it for yesterday. Didn’t seem to hurt, she got a job offer. Nurses are in high demand. She’s had several offers already. She doesn’t even finish school till May.
Flying this time of year can be hit or miss.
Glad she was able to reschedule. Congratulations to her on the offer. Sounds like she knows the path she wants to take professionally.

Gordo arrived today, it is really nice, thank you, Dave.

I like the variety within these fixed blades, and they offer a lot of utility in compact form. I tend to partner up a fixed blade with a traditional pocket knife, or sometimes modern folder. Peanut for size comparison, I can do three fingers on the handle of the Gordo, the leather fob allows the fourth to rest comfortably.

Family photos: Cowboy, Mestano, Gordo.

Fine looking herd of Horsewrights 👍🤠

Thanks, my wife Nichole does a great job on those. She's really liking the water buffalo leather for that project and is thinking of sticking with that as the only leather for that bag. I've got the first one, the prototype duffel bag and it's a different leather but she just likes the already broken in ness of the water buffalo. At the Grand Canyon bout a year ago:

I must have missed it so I will be a pest and ask - What does your brand stand for?

Thank you, David. They are very well crafted, different from one another. I see how compact and functional they are for ranch and farm environment (I grew up working on a farm and would have been all I'd ever needed). And I believe Mr. Ferry noted the value of being "out of the way until called upon". Really nice individual sheaths, well considered and conform to the knife.

I now have an office job, and noticed the Cowboy was sitting unsheathed on my desk at work, after normal eating and office tasks - and it bothered me not. Fits well for an office due to compactness, overall usefulness, nice looks and un-intimidating appearance.

Very cool! Great line ups. I like David's description as a Horsewright Herd!!!!

Not a pest at all my friend. It's simply our initials. D and N. So its read: Reverse D N connected over a quarter circle. I use to call it Rocking D N connected but the brand inspector who is a very old friend corrected me on that. While that is a rocker in many states here in Cali it has to be fifty percent of a circle for it to be a rocker, so it's a quarter circle. We own both the left shoulder and the left hip on stock so can put it either place. We do pay extra fees to have two locations.

Thanks for the kind words on those. Our motto is "Designed from the saddle for the saddle. What makes it work for the saddle also makes it work for everyday life for so many. Ya don't have to be in the saddle.

My first Horsewright came in last week. I’m really happy with it. It’s very well-made, super thin and slicey, with some very nice ram’s horn. As others have said, the leather work is great, it’s not bulky, stays close to my body so it doesn’t catch on things, and comfortable when I’m sitting down driving in the truck or on a quad (my normal saddles these days). The knife really locks into the sheath too.

If any one is wondering (not that anyone is) my brand is the initial of my cattle partner’s last name and my last name initial. We wanted it registered on the right hip so we added the quarter circle to differentiate from other KC brands registered there. There are a lot of brands registered in California and they all have to be unique.

I'm I interested in what the brand is.
Could have been for Killer Cows.

Great pic! Thanks for the kind words, glad that deals working for ya! I tooled that brand and Nichole dyed it. Small as our canvas is there I'd of had too many oops with the paint brush! Sometimes folks don't want their brand dyed but I think it makes a brand look like a brand!

Nichole burning one:

Then in with the cuttin'

I can tell ya that the calves object more to the restraint than they do to any of the processes done to them at a branding, even castration.

Thanks Dave. The brand on my sheath came out great. I like the dyed look. Here’s another shot from today.

We’re around 12 or 13 inches which I think is just about average for this point in the year and there’s more in the forecast. Seems like it’s been just enough rain here lately to cancel most of my son’s baseball practices.

Temps have been relatively warm and the rain has been spread out so we were fine on feed this winter. The grass is coming on now and the cows are fat and the calves are growing.

Ah looking good. Ya know while we dearly miss ranching, I'm almost glad we don't have to worry about it this year cause we just haven't had any real moisture. Talking to a guy yesterday that the majority of their ranch is down the hill although they did border us on two sides too. He was pretty confident they were fine because they'd received quite a bit more rain further down than we have here. He was up here dropping some chaps off for me to repair. Ya know we use to run at about 70 percent capacity. That way if we had a bad year we could weather it without having to sell.

Dave is the man
Thank you sir!

Thought I'd talk about sheaths that I make for other folks knives. Most of my patterns work for other knives as well as my own. And that's a pretty big part of our deal. I do require the knife to be sent to me for proper fit but I thought I'd show some pics of other knives and the sheaths I've made for them. If ya have one show us a pic.

This is my Slotted sheath:

I have several other sheath styles to share but kinda out of time right now. I'll try to get more posted this evening. Post em up if ya got em!

Very versatile Dave.
Love the detail on the big fella basket weave.
What's the 2 handed ulu used for chopping?
