A Tale of Two Holsters......

So, I had a holster to make. A Pancake Style with water buffalo overlay. This holster was to fit a Smith and Wesson J Frame handgun. I make a lot of these as it's a very common gun carried on ranches and for EDC too. In cowboyese any small 2" revolver of this type is referred to as a snakegun. They are often carried with the first round being snakeshot, hence the name. As a holster maker a J Frame is an easy handgun to do leather for as they all pretty much fit. There are a rare 3" and 5" bbl models but they are very rare. Seldom do I get an order for one of these, almost all are the 2" models, well 1 7/8"s but we'll just round up. There are a plethora of Smith J Frame models out there and they all fit.

I finished the holster off and took some pics:

And then I brought the holster into the office for shipping. We don't ship every day, kinda two to three times a week so I do try to get things done when we're shipping so a project isn't sitting around waiting for the next shipping day. Set it on the desk with the other items to be shipped and went back out to the shop to get started on some other projects. A few minutes later my QC Officer....Nichole, comes out with the holster. This is never a good sign. Did I make a right hand when it's suppose to be a left hand or something of that ilk, while not common has happened. ""Did you see that this was suppose to be stitched in red?" "Er, I do now," as she points out the very obvious on the order form. So sorry Amigo, took me an extra day to get this built up for ya. Fortunately we did ship the next day too, so it didn't sit around.

Luv that buffalo leather..πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Both holsters look damn fine. Not sure who is waiting on the red stiched one, but the water buffalo overlay looks great with white stitching.

Interesting tale pard 🀠 Looking forward to it. πŸ‘
Happy Anniversary Dave and Nichole πŸŽ‰πŸ‘
Thank you sir both on the tale and the anniversary. You should see the holster in a day or two if not today.

Very nice Dave,

I did take her to chase cows yesterday afternoon and then to dinner at a very fine Sushi place. Yesterday was our 20th anniversary.

Yeah and it just wears and wears and only gets better with a patina of life.

The red one is going to David echoscout echoscout One advantage of making that kind of mistake is it does give you some stock for the website! Thas where the white one will end up.

Very nice Dave
The big belly clip point is not a regular for you?
Looks like ya been busy. Like the looks of the sheep horn πŸ‘πŸ€
It does make beautiful covers as i'm sure you are well aware of. 🀠
Second pic on the far right!!! What's that model??? Im liking it already😜
So the blade in question is a new model. I’m calling it the Elk Guide. It was designed with the assistance of a local elk guide. He told me what he liked in the knives he uses, then we did a little more here and a lil less there until we got the pattern just how he liked it. Another elk guide had seen it while in development and gave his approval by wanting several of them too. There are four in this first batch and they are all spoken for. I’m already thinking I’ll be building more soon. Those blades are all finished now by the way and have shipped to heat treat.

The sheep horn is a trade I have going and will be used for handle scales. I’m just figuring on how to cut them up most effectively with the highest yield. I’ve cut up quite a bit of it in years past but its been a LONG time ago.
