Hossom Millenium Texican !

You're right Sniperboy, I couldn't resist bragging on this knife a little bit

. I plan to do a few cutting tests with it, but I'm going to be extra careful because no way do I want to take a chance of damaging it.

Danbo, I'm sure if you talk real nice to Jerry, he'll make one for you

. He put up with me all those months I was waiting & is a true gentleman when it comes to dealing with impatient customers,(like me). Jerry is an artist with steel & I can wholeheartedly recommend him for anyone who wants this type of knife.

Danbo, you're right about Snakewood. It can be fickle. My general practice with Snakewood is to buy it, cut it, then let it sit for several months (in this case about 12 months) to see what it is going to do, before I use it on a handle. I used teak oil, several coats, to finish the handle on this knife. With the pins and the epoxy that should keep it pretty stable, but your recommendation about keeping wax on it is a good one, especially after the knife has seen serious use.

Guess what guys? The Texican arrived today! It's even more gorgeous in person, then it was in the picture. Kudos to Jerry who took the idea I had & turned it into this fantastic knife & to Matt Draper who created one of his great sheaths for it! Got to go now, I hear my knife calling me to play with it

Regarding the wood, I have a knifemaker friend who once had the cocobolo slabs on a full tang knife shrink up(like all natural handle materials will). From that point on, he prepare all his natural handle materials in a unique way. All woods and stag horn is soaked for about a week in Thompson's water seal under a vacuum pressure and then allowed to air dry for at least a week after that. It really seems to at least slow down the shrinkage problem and gives the wood and stag a more polished look to boot. Makers out there might want to give it a try, Thompson's Water Seal is not very expensive.
