Hot Rod AK

Good idea on the site. Interesting idea to make a Severtec. I wouldn't sacrafice an AK but...... Man both would be cool.

Ban, you DEFINITELY need your own website...

Finding and collecting all your mod pics is hard work!

hey ban, quick question....

in a job like this, is a lot of material removed from the edge???

This one sports a full convex zero edge along with a rounded spine. The tang is also tapered all the way up to the choil. Handle slabs were replaced with some custom Red/Black/Olive (Dragons Breath) ShadeTree Phenolics micarta and the rear talon hole is enclosed. The rounded spine gives the illusion of the blade being very thin. I just mic'd the blade thickness at .190. The standard AK is .20.

This specimen is perfectly balanced and wicked fast for a sword. The standard AK feels almost clunky and sluggish after whirling this bad boy around. Balance point is slightly forward of the choil and noticeably lighter than a standard AK. This is one finely tuned zombie slayer :D

Beautiful work Ban

There is definitely a fair amount of material removed to get rid of the CBTs and establish the convex. The portion of the edge that corresponds to where the original height of the cutting edge is right at .030 and the blade thickness is right at .190. I removed just barely enough material to get rid of the CBTs and all traces of dimples. Hope this helps.

WoW, fantastic work Ban! Makes me want to get working on my grinder!

:D

Nice work. Personally I would have chosen some nice wood for the handles. Anyway, fantastic looking AK. When can I send you mine?:)

ZOMBIES BEWARE!

Regards,

Jos

GEEZ Ban, that thing's amazing! Only thing is: You're TOO good :p it was pretty hard to get myself to use my 1/300 again :D Good thing I'd been looking forward to it for a while ;) I might not have made the jump otherwise!!

I really like the rounded spine, is this the first tapered tang you've done? I don't think I've seen pics of one yet!?! Way cool! That micarta is out of this world!

hey ban, would you consider doing work on non-busses??? i have a few himalayan imports khukuris i would like to have rehandled.....
