It would have some edge damage but not as likely to chip.Sound like an interesting but different knife. Yesterday I tried to cut through an air hose that, unknown to me, had steel braid inside. The vg10 rolled a little but wasn't as damaged as I thought it would be. How would k390 hold up to that?
Hitachi XVC11 is the same composition as M4. I would be very interested in this happening.
oh CTS-XHP would be such a charmI wouldnt mind cts xhp or s30v endura either. Or just do s35vn.
REALLY?!![]()
How do they behave differently?Hitachi XVC11 is the same composition as M4. I would be very interested in this happening.
HAP40 is the same composition as M4 but with the addition of a bunch of cobalt. Cobalt does not form carbides and is supposed to be added to aid in hot hardness, something irrelevant to knife blades. That said, I do find my HAP40 blades to behave differently than my M4 blades. I am not sure why.
How do they behave differently?
What do you use for edge maintenance on your HAP40? Strop, ceramic, diamonds?I have a few Spydies in each steel. I have found HAP40 more stain resistant and less wear resistant and I have found M4 less stain resistant and more wear resistant. In my experience HAP40 takes a screaming sharp edge with very little effort. I really, really like the edge I get from it and it's edge retention is great but still a step below M4.
Maybe the difference is just in heat treat? I don't know. For EDC I love HAP40.
