How about a gear swapping thread?

Brian, what do you think? Could we have a sort of swap meet type thread? Where we could exchange gear, packs, compasses, knives,etc. What do you think?
 
i love the idea:thumbup:, but for some reason, i forsee it being an issue, since there is already a trade forum...:confused:
 
Well the Busse Dudes have that fs forum at the top of theirs right?? Maybe they would be OK w/it.:thumbup: I haven't seen Brian. Is he around??
 
I think that it may work considering that there is a Swap thread in the Traditional forum, but who knows?
 
That would be a cool idea. We are definitely a big forum here, but I dunno if Spark would be cool with it.
 
I have a ton of useless gear I'd love to sucker you... I mean trade to you. I'm all for it:D
 
If we do get our own trading forum, it would be nice if it's by invite only. There's a lot of people with no history or reputation (ie. their only posts are in the exchange) trying to make deals in the current trading forum, and frankly I wouldnt trust any of them. I doubt many of the other regulars would want to mail their gear to a complete unknown either, so all they'd be doing is cluttering it up.

That's one of the first things that crossed my mind. I know I can trust the regulars here. The problem is how do we limit (what rules, conditions) people into the trade thread who are newbies, or maybe regulars in BF, but not regulars in WS?

I say let it be at Brians discretion. It'd be a WS trading forum anyway, people who dont use the WS forum can use the regular trading area.
 
It is easy to simply and politely decline. I don't have to trade or sell with anyone I'm not comfortable with. But, if it is meant to be, I will certainly use a trade forum amongst the regulars here.

Why bother having another trading forum if its exactly the same though?
 
I agree with sketchbag, I think Brian should be able to pick who's allowed. Or if someone is new, they would have to ship first. like it or leave.
 
I don't think an even higher workload for our moderator (a far better one than most anyway) is a great idea, if the suggestion is that he approve it person-by-person. If it's just him deciding on criteria for those allowed, I think that's kind of a given.

Either way, it seems most likely to me that Spark will refer us to the existing trade forum (though I also think one for just us would be pretty neat, and something I might actually take part in).
 
I like the idea ,

but being way over in Aus , and given the reluctance of anyone even on the for sale sections to consider anyone outside of the US , its gunna be way more of a heartbreaker than anything

just my thorts tho
 
We may have to make a case for a WS swapping thread. I looked at what the Busse people have, and it is not a trade thread, but a "for sale" sub-forum. Of course, I don't know if any other sub-forum have requested their own trade/swapping thread.

Thinking about it, if the Busse people have their own for sale sub-forum, maybe we can have something similar, assuming that Spark agrees on the details, where it is up to the "seller" to determine what he would accept as "payment." I know I'm arguing semantics, but I'm just thinking out loud (you know what I mean), and it is 4 in the morning, and I would really like this to work.

Myal, if we can make this work, IMO since the WS forum is more like a real community than the average online forum, I think that those outside the US will not find themselves cut out.
 
Hey Gents (and lady if Donnamc reads this):

I'm back around, albeit catching up on numerous things, but will address this with Spark as soon as possible. I may be doing a solo tonight through tomorrow, possibly Saturday, but may make on concession to technology and bring my laptop so I can post pics and things here as I go. Also will be able to log in here. Of course, that all depends on wireless reception and the battery power lasting.

Either way, by this Sunday, I'll be caught up, and then you all will get sick of me being around just like before! :D
