How about a gear swapping thread?

It might be nice to have a private swap forum. Say it this way, I would be more likely to trade for a used item from a private swap forum where I knew everyone. In the open trade forum, where it's all strangers, I usually look for NIB or not at all.

Even if the idea falls flat here it would be a breeze for someone to set something up for regulars of this forum to use. Such a device was used to circumvent the difficulties on the Swamp Rat site. They just set up a Yahoo group called “bussekinexchange” [I won't link to it because that could be misinterpreted as spam – Scroogle it up].

I'd happily set it up for you but:

1] I'm an Englishman in England and I think one of you American guys would do better fronting it.

2] Some of you guys have met. I believe that could help foster a climate of trust in the project ab ovo.

3] If it were my doing I'd use something other that Yahoo. I have the Yahoo IP range blocked from my machines. Although it is a trivial matter to unblock it for a specific purpose, which I do in some instances, if I were devising something I'd save myself some hassle.

That's good to know. It may be a viable alternative if all else fails. We do have to wait to see if Spark would approve our swapping thread. Personally I would prefer for the thread to be under the rules and restrictions of BF.

I'd be happy to set a private forum up on my site if Spark doesn't think it is appropriate here. I have plenty of bandwidth and server space, so it might as well be used for something. :)

ace,

I don't think it'll be a problem, but wait until I can verify. One thing Spark wants is a minimum of stickies. So, I suggested on the mug shot thread that I soon post the various suggestions for sticky threads, and everyone here votes. Highest vote immediately gets on the sticky list, and we can add the 2nd and 3rd place ones as other current stickies get unstuck. Ideally, I'd like 3 favorite "permanent" stickies, and one spot reserved for temporary things like event announcements or passarounds, etc.

What do you guys think of this voting idea?

I don't think that sounds too bad. Do you think that maybe we could just try this for a while? Kind of like the swap thread in the Traditional forum? Or would we have to have Spark's permission?
