How are you preparing for Irene?

Just got the power back on. LI didnt get much of a scratch.

Just a bunch of trees down here and there,a few even took out some houses
We lost power @10AM yesterday. Made the early trek over to Lowes and wouldnt you know it, 800 bucks later I own a nice 5500 watt generator.

No water damage, boats ok, no tree damage, just no power (till today). LIPA is saying something like Thurs or Fri for us.
I consider myself one of the lucky ones

I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said hundreds of trees are down in my general area. And it seams 25% of those trees found powerlines.

Power is out all over around here. Luckily my powerlines are underground so I'm fine. Allthough my water bill is going to be through the roof as I have been filling buckets of water for friends in the area and also letting them take hot showers. They estimate getting power restored to everybody by next week.

Flooding has also been a big problem Not realy for me as I'm in a high area, but all lowland areas near rivers are under water.
Here is a video someone took of my area.

Vermont has been hit really hard by flooding.

Geez,

Not a single tree down in my neighborhood. Only one good size tree I saw down around here (South Shore Suffolk). The big issue here was flooding, my brother's house had the water literally 10 feet from the house. Its usually 3 blocks away. Just a few more feet and I would be there pumping the basement.

But looks like upstate and New England got hit the worst. The town I used to live in Vermont is under water. The town right next to it has the river flowing right through the middle of Main st.

Amazing, I would have thought LI would have gotten the worst of it (which I didn't think would be much).

Okay, so I'm on day four of no power, although the cable/Internet just came back on. The area gas stations are running dry, and the utility trucks are not expected to start working in the area until Friday at the earliest.

No damage to my place - just a bit of water in the basement and a slightly leaky window.

Sure glad I got that generator; it's like cheating!

Glad you made it through your first Hurricane allright Foilist! Those generators sure come in handy. Paid for itself in 4 days, gotta love those investments!

Friday afternoon. Still no power. Was told maybe Mon. This is really starting to suck even if you were prepared. Running $25-$30 a day in gas for the genny. If she holds out for this one I might even change the oil. It's hard handling all the regular workday stuff then coming home to this crap.:grumpy: I started to assault a CL&P worker in the gas station lot to see if it would make me feel better.--I refrained.--KV

My sister, also in Connecticut, is still without power too. They're telling her Tuesday.

This was my yard, the rond thing in th e middle is a birdbath.

Dog doesn't seem to mind.

And where I still had dry property left I had to deal with this.

Power went out about 2 am on Sunday mornin', came back on about 3 pm on Thursday.

my adult life has been on the central Florida Gulf coast since 1955....when you guys in New England finally get dried out and power restored, get together with like minded friends and put together a "lessons learned" file...easily overlooked ideas.... like using the Sun to heat 120' of garden hose to provide hot water for a shower can add a little comfort to a miserable day....

Les, lots of us in my neck of the woods have well water and no power means no water.

It also means no way to flush any waste.

But being W&SS kind of folks, storing water for drinking as well as lesser quality water for flushing is part of the equation.

I bathed in sun heated rain water several times this week.

I hear that - what a drag this has been. We finally got our power back this afternoon.
