How can Victorinox do it?

I have a soft spot for SAKs. Don't we all? How many of you can see a Victorinox store in a mall and NOT stop in for a look? :D

My EDCs are a Tiffany sterling silver SAK (a gift from my wife) and a Ritter Mini Grip.

Victorinox SAKs are, dollar-for-quality, the best value in the industry today. There are some people that say they are made of crap steel, but in some people's opinions crap steel in anything that isn't S30V, D2, and whatever high-end steels there are. I love my EDC Sebenza too, but I also continue to carry at least one SAK on me every day (usually a Classic and a Soldier). I carried a Spartan model when I lived overseas for several years as my only EDC back then, and although I never abused it, it held up through some very nasty humid environments. Sure, it won't hold an edge like S30V, but the blades are very easy to resharpen. If they had S30V or other high-end specialty knife steels, they wouldn't be as inexpensive or available as they are; therefore they wouldn't be the same value for money. SAKs prove that, yes, you definitely can buy, own, and enjoy a high-quality knife without breaking your wallet, and without an overly big fear of using and losing it.

The only "crap" SAKs I know of are the Chinese-made knockoffs you sometimes see.

I have to agree with the consensus. I like sak's and use one for an edc. I do however think that victorinox is a better choice than wenger. I have always found the action on my victorinoxs to be much crisper than that of wenger, and for my needs victorinox offers better tools on some models.

Victorinox is very unique in terms of fit and finish. No other slipjoint company is even in the ball park. The only one that I've found to come close is A.G. Russell, on his in-house branded models.

The rest all just hit and miss, at best.

My Victorinox Atlas will be with me in Heaven, because you never know when God will need pliers. :)

Alvin,
I never new that Tiffany commissioned a Classic! Very sweet! I've been looking for a hammered silver Classic for a while, but the Tiffany blows it out of the water! BTW, SAKS's rule! I collect Classics and have over 10 different designs. However, my favorite SAKs have be the Executive and Tinker.
