How can you not like the wave

I have yet to see anyone, either in person or on the interweb, who can consistently deploy a knife using a wave. They can do it a time or two, and then whoops - hold on while I try again. Imagine the difficulty of doing it while someone is trying to slice your throat. So I am am totally cool with the wave feature for fun or aesthetics or the 2nd kind of cool, and a least a couple of my Emersons have the feature. If Mr. Ernie says that some of his bad boy clients can deploy the wave with 100% efficacy, I'll believe what he says. But we Average Joes may not want to rely on the feature in a life and death scenario, and for that reason I'm not a fan of the wave except for just having fun.

I would say the wave is more reliable then a thumb stud. all you have to do is ride the back of your pocket HARD! so i guess u never got a partial deployment on a folder with studs on it. nothing is 100% perfect, your knife can not open all the way with any opining design, and your gun could have a light primer strike, but unless your a pansy and worried about tearing up your pocket a little them the wave is just as effective if not more then any other folder. Imagine the difficulty doing ANYTHING when some one is trying to slice your throat this is why we train!!...at least with the wave all you have to do is grab and pull towards the back of your pocket.

It's been a long, long time since I tried to wave deploy a broken in Emerson and failed to achieve full solid lockup. In fact, I have some, like my Gypsy Jack that can do it so effortlessly that it can be achieved in almost slow motion. That particular knife is easily the best "waver" I have tried; it's pocket clip is clear of the pocket prior to the wave reaching the pocket's hem, and the weight of the blade is tip biased and effortlessly carries it to lockup.

I'm more sure of it working than I am of a revolver cycling - how's that for a confident endorsement?

Been a while since I posted anything to this forum. To that affect I hope everyone is well. This seems like a rather silly topic but I suppose I'll humor Mr. Conservative and see what he has to say. I don't use the wave feature on any of my Emersons. I don't flick my knives (any brand) open either. I actually tighten them so that nothing short of deliberate pressure by my thumb will open them. I have no use for the wave feature as my pocket knife is simply a tool. Therefore, to me it is asthetically unappealing and if I have to think about how to pull this thing out of my pocket without it partially opening I'd say the bit is in the way. My pocket knife has not and never will be a weapon. If I'm in a bad enough situation, even in my civilian life, there are plenty of other items I reach for before my pocket knife.

Point(s) well taken JW85. That said, there are some models that IMHO are not suited to be waveless, such as a Commander. No disrespect intended sir, but I actually think you are missing out by depriving yourself (intentionally) of how well a Commander or Gypsy Jack performs the "wave" task. Sorry, it's just too fun, even in "non life threatening" situations. Again, no disrespect intended, and BTW don't be a stranger. :)

Non taken kind sir. And I'm certainly not the type to begrudge anyone a bit of fun.

Maybe the Wave. feature should be viewed as an option to have, and to use if you like. Kind of like having another channel on your TV, you don't have to watch it. But it is there if you choose to watch that extra channel.

BTW, that SF 10 looks exactly like one I entrusted to a vitally critical mission, to be with my daughter when she embarked on leaving for college. She's had a few male students recognize it as an Emerson. If they knew how well she shoots her 45cal Glock or her AR, they'd really be impressed.

I like the wave on most designs it's very useful. I do appreciate many of the non waved models as well.

For some reason or another, the wave seems to open up my commander in my pocket when I'm driving. Cut my leg a couple times and fingers when trying to grab it. the wave also obliterated the pocket seam of my favorite pants. I still like it but it has undeniable safety issues to those not familiar with the feature.

Are you carrying it on the correct side for the pocketclip orientation? It shouldn't be able to open back against the edge of your pocket.

i love emerson knives, but i actually dont like the wave at all for deploying the blade. i only like the wave in that it feels good as a thumb ramp and looks cool on some models, but i actually dont use it to deploy my emersons. i prefer to open them manually with my thumb. i would love it if they offered waved and non waved versions of each model.

It was the wave feature that originally turned me on to Emerson knives and I love it.

My CQC-7v opens flawlessly with the wave feature and I just love playing with it :-)

Now, when I carry one of my Strider knives I end up wishing they had that feature also.

I've gotten myself bit a few times when the wave snagged the liner down in my pocket and started to open prematurely. I've trained myself to grip the blade spine along with the handle when deliberately non-waving on presentation.

I do the same thing as I've been bit a few times from a partially opened knife. I can't imagine being without the wave feature now though.
