How could Swiss Army improve their knives?

It would be awesome if they had a custom shop like Buck, where you could pick which tools you want and what steel. Then you really come up with your own ultimate SAK.

Assisted opening feature for blade(s) and perhaps the other tools. License Ken Onion technology for example. Good for one hand opening say when the other hand has a corked bottle of wine in it.

Squared edges on their screwdrivers. They are slightly rounded, which, combined with a highly-polished finish, doesn't give enough "bite" on screws an bolts. Especially if the screws/bolts are marginal to begin with.

Magnetic model: sticks to the ice box so you always know its whereabouts.

LED flasher light for joggers, walkers and other nocturnal visibility seeking activity buffs.

oregon

Puzzle SAK. It can be broken down into pieces and reassembled without tools for the bored and the fastidious.

"Swiss Army" is not a brand name.

"Swiss Army" is a trademark owned by Victorinox.

"Genuine Swiss Army Knife" is a trademark owned by Wenger.

It must be fun to be a trademark lawyer.

Only thing I can think of I'd like to see changed it improve the springs in the scissors so you don't get that "My scissors sciss but they don't or" syndrome.

I agree with you there.

I've had the springs break on 2. Not from any sort of abuse, just from regular use.

I like both Wenger and Victorinox knives a lot, I've been using them for ages and have a bunch of them.
This is what I'd like to change:
-Victorinox: more Alox handled models, lock on regular sized knives, another one hand opener but with a plain edge, Lite models of some of the 110mm knives (I just bought a Huntsman Lite and it rocks!), more StayGlow knives (I didn't like them at first, until I bought a Climber and tried it out).

-Wenger: put keyrings on those stainless steel and wood handled models! I like them a lot, but they are small and without a place to tie up a lanyard they might get lost. Get rid of the serrations of the scissors, or make them smaller. Another screwdriver instead of the nail file. A one hand openning 120mm would be nice. LEDs on some models would be cool, too.

hmm I think maybe they could put on a bottle opener or maybe a corkscrew. I dont think they have enough of those models.

Hmm maybe they could put on a ummm err well yeah pretty much they've got all their bases covered. well maybe they could include a slot for a small fine grit sharpening stone so you can keep the crappy steel sharpened.

Yes, SAKs should have a little button that makes all the tools spring out simultaneously with tremendous force.

Now that's the best idea I've heard in a long time.

Better blade steel? I don't feel the price increase would justify it. Whatever steel they use works just fine for me.

Scissor springs breaking? They are cheap and easy to replace.

Serrated edges? Several models have been /are available. Many have been discontinued, probably due to lack of sales.

Textured handle scales? Several alox models are ribbed and the nylon handled models have a slight texturing.

Locking blades? The 111mm models all have locking main blades.

Pocket clip? Pocket clips are diabolical. :D Victorinox makes a great stainless steel belt hangar and several styles of belt pouches if you don't want to carry loose in your pocket.

Non serrated one handed blade? Now that would be an improvement!

Soldier with a key ring? They are available, or you can just get a Pioneer, which just has a different shield/cross on the handle.

Original Swiss Army Knife....Victorinox
Genuine Swiss Army KNife....Wenger
Victorinox recently took Wenger over.

How do I think they can improve? By making a 91mm version of the Lumberjack model.

Those are my thoughts....YMMV. :D

An auto-SAK? It would kind of defeat the idea of having a small non-threatening knife.

Sounds cool though.

Well, here are several improvements that would great:

Better blade-steel (at least AUS-8)

Make all models available with alox scales (especially ones with the scissors)

Make all models available with StayGlow scales.

Add a pocket-clip to the large lock-blade models.

Allen.

I'd like to see a premium blade option, but I don't know how practical it'd be. They'd to it to the more popular models, like the Soldier, Spartan, Tinker, and maybe the Swisschamp but then everyone would complain that their favorite model was neglected.

Plain Edge One Handed Opener, that's the ticket!

I like the Trekker, but the serrated edge kind of puts me off from buying one.

Pretty much the first day I had my Pink Classic, I had that idea. Press the emblum, the blade pops out. But I wouldn't care if it did not lock open.

PS: Oh, and forged kitchen knives. That would be aweXome.

I like that idea a lot. Take the basic large SAK scales and provide a package where you could buy as many of the tools as you want and let you put it together how you see fit for a particular situation.

Those really big, everything you'll ever need to survive, raise children, develop a third world nation SAKs are just too cumbersome. They've got some nice tools, so why not have the option of any tool you want?

Maybe a choice between scales too, I'd like the Alox or some more "exotic" woods.
