There are a lot of details coming out about how this was handled about as badly from the start as it could be. This is not a slam on the rank and file police that serve. The people in charge here in Atlanta are a joke, a sad dangerous joke. I am thankfull that more people were not hurt.
 
The administration of Police is a joke wherever. They answer to politics and feel good opinion. See how the Police Chief's associations are always for gun control, but the rank and file policeman is not?

I still suspect strongly that the reason this man was not treated more cautiously after being discovered with a shank is the politics on top. We do not wish to see our young men and women treated as animals. We especially do not wish this if we are a growing black community and it is our young men who are in the majority of pop in the judicial system.

The women's lib issue will not be addressed in my lifetime. I spent ten years strapping down combative psychotic patients. Know what the female staff did? Grabbed the belts, manned the phones, and turned the station on the group hall TV during crisis. They of course, were paid the same as I.

I've told this story but will tell it again:
Dateline, San Bernardino Ca:
My house is broken into and items are missing. I find the kicked-in front door upon coming home, grab my 1911, and call the cops.

They weren't coming right away until I told them I was armed, the perp could still be on the property, and I was going looking.

3 minutes later a 6'4" male officer showed. We searched the place. He left, saying another officer would be by shortly to do the paperwork.
When she arrived, I fell in love. She was hispanic, adorable, lovely, 5' 3" and smelled good too. We sat on the sofa together giggling as we filled out the paperwork.

I hoped at the time she did not earn what the male officer did but knew better than to wonder.

We are designing our world not as it is and we are, but as we dream it should be. When we end descrimination and hunger, these are wonderful dreams to fulfill. When we put the wrong people in the wrong positions, we are stupid, dangerously, psychotically stupid. How do you define psychosis? A number of ways- but largely believing a world-self view that does not exist, through a variety of delusions, misapprehensions, distortions and hallucinations.

Our society will hallucinate the problem is better holsters, more staff, and tighter controls and responses to this situation. All good- but all with the lie deep inside that men are the same as women. They are not; they should only be the same in opportunity.

I've watched idiot madness too long to give in to bitterness. Why should I?

I agree, and not just for the above post.

I apologize if someone else has already said this:

Why don't we have Unarmed officers being the close physical escorts to dangerous UNSHACKLED thugs????!!! AND have an armed guard 3-6 paces behind?

SO the thug has to break free of the unarmed escort, giving a clear warning to the armed officer behind.

Please let me know if there is a flaw in my logic, because it kills me that they aren't doing this! :mad:
 
It could be called another success story in deconstructing the North American social structure.

It is interesting that both the Atlanta shootings, and the Church shooting, were carried out by computer technicians who were about to lose their jobs. When you apply enough stress, people who are capable of violence, may act out under the duress. I expect that we will see much more of this as we continue to dismantle our economy.

Really glad that you are back n2s. You were missed.

As related to overcrowding and stress, severely overcrowded rabbits will kill and eat each other. If rabbits can be pushed to that, imagine what can happen to poeple?

Intense hopeless stress can bring out the worst. People feel they have nothing to lose. In some countries "running amuck" can be a way of suicide in Hindu/Buddhist religions. Suicide itself is verboten. You can be guaranteed of a reincarnation in a much worse place than the one you are trying to escape. But dying in battle is different.

Let's say that you are a Hindu Baliniese in the last century, maybe the 1800s. You have lost your wife and family in a gamble. You are depressed beyond understanding. You have nothing to look forward to.

So you grab a weapon and kill everyone in sight. You have a theta level brain wave pattern. You do not feel pain. You are immensely strong. Only death will stop you and ease your insane pain.
 
Here is Atlanta we saw the end of the Nichols rampage. You may know that the last person he 'kidnapped' was a young white woman. He held her prisioner in her apartment. Duct tape and wire bindings. He made no sexual advances.

She began to talk to him and share her faith in God. He untied her and they talked most of the night, from 2:00 am until 9:30 am.

At first he told her he felt like a warrior. She began telling him about her husband who was stabbed to death. She showed him the autopsy report. She told him that the families of the people he killed would be looking at autopsy reports, like this one.

He no longer felt like a warrior.

He asked her to shoot him so he could die.

She witnessed to him. He called her "an angel sent from God." She told him that his life was not wasted, that he could minister to people in prison and save more people than he had killed. She agreed to visit him.

He let her go and she called the cops. He came out waving a white tee shirt as a truce flag.

So now he is in custody. I am of mixed emotions. Part of me wants to see him suffer greatly for the tragedies he inflicted. For the pain he caused, in his victims, their families and the general public. The fear he caused. The building lockdowns.

But, dammit, I must also look at the concept of 'forgiveness.' Can I forgive the atrocities he did? Even though I am, at best, a bystander --- not a participant in this drama.

Forgiveness is not justifying. Forgiveness is just forgiving. As a Christian I am called to forgive. I will try, but bottom line, I think that he should get the death penalty. He killed wantonly. He should pay the ultimate price.

He should suffer the consequences of his actions.

And I will work on my forgiveness.
