I started out at the Swamp looking for a RW and BD. And the next thing I know I am violently dragged into the world of INFI! ;)

About three years ago my love of steel was rekindled by an Amzon gift certificate from my sister. I bought a Spydie Paramilie and a Tops Operation Badger. I read about both knives before I bought them and came across Cliff Stamp's recommendations and the Equipped to Survive site. Both sources said Busse was about the best. Stamps review of the SHBM clinched it. Not too much later I was firmly on the road to financial ruin courtesy of Busse Combatand I have never had so much fun or such great steel.
Thanks to everyone at Busse

i was reading around in the wilderness/survival forum & swamp rat was mentioned. google'd "swamp rat knives". i found the swamp & eventually found my way to busse & scrapyard

I was reading up on knife steels (S30V) and stumbled on the CliffStamp site.
His essays got me over to the Busse site, but I didn't like the Hell Razor, or the War Boar, It wasn't until I bought a SJtac that I was HOOKED!!

I kept on seeing the busse ads on the exchange. Had zero interest in them so just skipped them over. One day when I was bored clicked on an ad, knife looked interesting. That lead to more research on the brand. Which led to my first ebay purchase.

PG, great topic. I loved reading everyones reviews.

My Knife experiences match the Janitors except from the users side. I started collecting knives when I was 5 years, when my mom bought me a razor sharp Puma folder. I promptly sliced my thumb open cutting an orange.

Fast forward to the late 80's. I was collecting what I thought was hard use knives. I had started with the Lile style rambo knives. I had a Buckmaster 184 which was my toughest knife at the time. I started getting into the metallurgy and buying knives made of wierd steels and allows. I had the first run of Mission MPK's, with the copper finish. anyway, I went to the Ontario, CA Gun Show as my usual annual event in around 1995. The largest Show in the Country at the time and would be today if it was still happening. Anyway, I was at a table full of kives. from some private collector. He was an old man and asked me what I was looking for. I said I like TOUGH knives and told him about my latest ATS34 Custom aquisition, remember when ATS34 was the bomb? So he said, well if you like tough knives I have one for you. I have used this one to no end and you cannot destroy it. I picked it up and it was heavy. He said, "it's a Boozay" It was black and about 13.5 inches OAL. He said it was made out of a tool steel that was known for toughness, A-2. He said that since it was used, he'd sell it to me for $150. So I bought it. Well I put it in my nightstand and there it stayed because I had other knives to use. I was also collecting Cold Steel and randall. At this time I had no knowledge of the Busse line. As I got on the knifeforums of the time, many people were on there, Cliff, Aubrey, Turber, myself, and tons of people gone now. Mad dog was there. anyway, I started hearing more and more about busse. then I saw what people were saying about the NEW Battle Mistress made of the INFI steel. So I thought, man I want one of those. So I called the shop and spoke with someone, not sure who. I said I wanted a knife made of INFI. They said they had the Steel Heart and the BM. So I ordered both. Then I sld my A-2 SH because I was mistakenly under the impression that it was not worth it. In the meantime, I bought a SHBM second hand from someone who did not appear to like it. I then got my SHBM and SH's and Mean Streets. And that was all between 1997 and late 1998 early 1999. I think I placed my order in 1998 and got mine over a year later.

In the meantime, I wasted my time with 440a,b,C, ATS-34, 420V, 440V, Stellite, Talonite, O-1, 1095, 1084, AUS series, Ti, Nitinol, and you name it I have probably used it at some point. So I do not count my first Busse purchase as my first real experience as I had no clue what I had bought at the time. I had already sold that A2 SH when the Article in one knifemag came out with it on the cover.

But what sold me was the day I had to use my SHBM for something serious. And it worked where others failed.

had a chance to hold some in my hand-that was it ! been USING them ever since.

The first "good" knife I bought myself in high school was a Buckmaster. It is still floating around here somewhere. My dad tried to sharpen it on an edlund kitchen sharpener and gouged the hollow grind and a "buddy" borrowed it without asking to go deer hunting and lost one of the pins. A cold Steel, Al Mar, Benchmade and a few others thrown in there. Then I saw an ad for the Killer Bee. The knife didn't do much for me, but I had to check out this company with the incredible warrantee. It was all over after that. I joined the home forum, found out about this place and bought my first SH-E from papathud. Look at me now Ma!!!

Here is my first stab at "Tough" knives.
Now they look like the Mall Ninja bonus pack!
I remember watching the Cold Steel video in AWE:D

I have a couple copies of the "Proof" videos. I break one out at parties so we can all watch LT's face as he disects sides of meat with such seriousness. The other one I use as a beer coaster. If I have another copy shoved in my direction, like I did my first Blade, I can have a set of beer coasters.

Saw a post by some guy who called himself ProGunner. One picture later and it was off to the races.

ADDED: To be a little more honest, last summer was a particularly difficult time for 'us guys' in the Intelligence Community. That, plus some personal issues, pushed me to look for some form of stress relief other than the usual trip to the gym. I have no idea why I decided to buy a knife again. One quick Google and a trip to BladeForums and then...

:D, you picked Busse to de stress from intel work, I took over the family business to get away from intel work and had to take up Busse to destress from my new career. :D Funny how things work. :D

I would call that irony if I wasn't such a cynic.

It's really more like fate. We both wish we could cut through our problems as easily as a Busse knife cuts through a tree limb, eh? And if we were only half as tough as a Steel Heart or Mojo.

Someday I'll tell you what some of the other 'old intell guys' (and now 'gals') do to de-stress. Some = funny, some = pathetic, and some = downright scary!:D

At any rate, hello again -- brother. There's really no way I will ever be allowed to escape the Community...stayed in just a bit too long.

My experience is still very young and actually I don't own a Busse as yet but have a couple of recent Badgers on order.
Only a few month ago found my way to BF and with it entry to a new world, got quite exited over a couple of Swamp Rat Howlers and learned through that of the family connection to Busse.
Looking forward to these legendary blades.

looks like you spent some money there, those arent cheap!

how about a torture test with one of those and a fbm or something? id love to see a comparison.

btw, i have nothing against cold steel, necessarily. LT is a scumbag, but have only owned one knife. wasnt impressed, but yours look to be of higher quality.

I was introduced to Swamp Rats by River 8 many moons ago, and passed up several opportunities to purchase one due to funds not being available.. Fast forward several years.. I had heard of Busse's through a certain Survival Instructor (who shall remain nameless) but had never seen one. Meeting River 8 again at another SAR Training, he allowed me to not only hold, but abuse his HHFSH....

Ah, sweet love!

A year and 7 Busse's later.... I have one regret....

Shoulda bought a Busse sooner!!!!!

I purchased a matching pair of RMK Sasquatches from a gentleman about a year ago. He mentioned "Blade Forums" during one of our conversations, so I had to check it out. I came across a HHFSH in the sale forums and I had to have it. Well here I am at over 50 Busse's in my possession with more on the way. These knives are fantastic and addicting.
