How Did You Get Into Spydercos

When I was in middle school, a friend of mine won a custom engraved steel handled Delica SE at a local rodeo. I thought that was the coolest knife I’d ever seen! Shortly thereafter, I purchased a black handled Delica 3 SE and it remained my only knife for years! I loved that knife...used it for everything! Lost it somewhere along the way. I’ve owned many other brands since, but always come back to Spyderco!

When I saw Cliffhanger, I discovered that I needed one..1993 maybe? Got it at a gun show. Full serrated delica. Still occasionally carry it.

Not trying to start a Spydie in the movies thread here but......
Right, 1993, consensus seems to be a 1st Gen Endura but some OP think its a Delica. One of my favorite movies and put Spyderco on my radar( I wish I would have started the collection then).

Oddly enough, mine started with the Sharpmaker.. old one with the vhs. Then I got a delica, then the Walmart Native with S30v ( those have since departed the household somehow) but I still had the Sharpmaker. Then for Xmas 2 years ago my neighbor gifted me a large rescue knife she wasn't using. And this last Xmas I bought the Native 5 with S35vn . And I still have the Sharpmaker ..

Back in 2007 I was intrigued by H1 and pulled the trigger on the Pacific Salt. Been carrying it ever since, still going strong (middle one in the pic below)

I bought an ambitious about 8 years ago and carried the knife till the liner lock would not securely engage the tang and then retired the knife. I always wanted a higher end Spyderco, but always ended up buying other knives (cold steel, benchmade etc). Eventually pulled the trigger on a Para 3 and was introduced to a new level of quality and fit and finish. Ended up selling most of my other folders and then bought a Salt 2 SE. I don't care much for other brands these days.

I bought a Delica in 95. I had seen Spydercos and heard how great they were, so I set out to see for myself. After about a month, I recognized the utility of it, but I still think it's not much to look at. I still like my Spydercos, but I more often than not carry something more traditional.
