How did you guys finish the knot on izula wrap?

Wow! That's got to be just about the most minimalist technique in this thread, and it's elegant looking. I like the idea of being to remove the cord for use (the other knot based finishes do this, too, but this is trivial to untie).

How well does this hold up in use? (It's just the tightness of the wrap holding it in place, but I'm guessing that's more than enough.)

The good thing about doing it this way is that I can use the paracord and re-wrap it afterwards without cutting it or anything

Greta photos, too!

Thanks mate. It holds up very tight indeed, it just doesn't move at all. As long as you make sure that the wrapping is very tight it won't move an inch.

I take a lighter to the knot and just barely melt a part of them together. Looks best on black paracord. Its a 360 degree strider wrap.

That's a nice knot at the end. I may have to redo my tan/acu Izula. Right now I just have a plain knot at the end with the cord end completing the wrist loop.

Newbie here,
imported my Izula from Uncle Sam as no-one in UK sold them 'til recently. Bought for my EDC, which I carry concealed in my B.O.B. Wrapped like this so that I could unwrap easily and used Hi Viz for the live edge to make it easier to ID in the dark.
What do you think?

I took a lighter to the two ends of paracord near the lanyard hole and melted them together. I didn't really want any cord going around or past the lanyard hole, but I wanted a clean finish to the wrap. It has held up well. Here are some pics of both sides of my Izula.

Clean side.

I just got my second Izula today  I'm going to try some of these wraps !

I did my other one with waxed whipping cord.:

Wow! Some impressive wraps here. I think I'm going to have to re-do my Izula.

I also have a very clumsy paracord wrap on the sheath, containing the firesteel from the kit and a needle wrapped with fishing line.

Sounds like a project for tommorow...

That's clever. I was trying to figure out a way to finish the knot with the wraps going in the same direction around the ring and keep it looking neat but couldn't think of anything that good. Instead I did a little switch up of the pattern as it approaches the ring to alternate the wrap direction, and melt "mushrooms" onto the ends to keep the knot in place.

I just got some different colored paracord and may try something new though.

By the way, hi this is my first post. I've spent a couple hours on this forum the past 2 days while deciding which ESEE to get in addition to the Izula which I absolutely love. Good reading.

Welcome to Bladeforums and ESEE!

I like the look of your Izula. Very clean. I like wrapping mine to the lanyard hole only, because I like putting my pinky through the hole when I do detail stuff. There is a pic of mine a ways up the thread.

The good thing about the ESEE line is that they aren't too expensive, and you could maybe get a bunch! I am probably going to get the Junglas next. I know it's not the most practical knife, but I have always wanted a big, mean chopper to kick some ass with in the woods. Good luck!

I really like this. How much cord was needed to create this wrap with a wrist strap on the end?

Thanks for the welcome. I like the pinky hole, particularly as an alternative to using a wrist strap. It feels really solid when you use it unwrapped.

It seems like melting the ends together would be pretty tricky though. How did you get it nice and tight?

By the way, I did order an ESEE-4 today in green/orange, with the full sheath kit. :D I almost went for the lite machete too but that will have to go in another month's budget.

To do the above length and have room for wrist strap, I used roughly 6 feet and it always comes out perfect.

Here is an old picture of my Izula, when it was still wrapped:

I tied a simple reef knot on the inside of the ring. After it was tied, I melted the ends of the 550 cord and pushed them back on the knot. I then lightly heated the entire knot with a Bic lighter to make it partially stiff. I figured that the wrap was for comfort primarily, so if I ever really needed it, I could just cut the knot off to use the cord.

The main benefit of this method, was that I could still palm the end of the knife handle and control it comfortably.

The cost was that I couldn't use the 550 cord without shortening its length.

My Izula looks a lot different now. I bought the handle scales as soon as they came out, and after owning them for a while I am now making full sized wooden scales for it.

I stopped before wrapping pinky hole, ran once back thru at bottom of hole, then cut excess and melted ends onto rest of handle. Try and post pic tonight

Here's ours, similar to the one on the page before. The wife liked this style best. Mine turned out a bit cleaner than hers, though I did mine first. Beginner's luck, I guess. Of course, had to do mine twice since the cord was too short the first time. :o
