How do I stop buying knifes

Ask yourself why you are constantly buying knives. Do you need them? Read my posts on discovering and maintaining such addictions.

As others have explained, you came to the wrong place for a solution.
I had to get a better job to support my habit.
The wife has not convinced me either, I have convinced her I need them.
The kids have stopped needing new clothes that fit.
I've had the same pair of shoes for four years.
I can survive and function on cat naps.
"I'll take it" has become my most commonly used phrase.
I don't need therapy nearly as bad as a bigger safe.
At any rate good luck with your problem!

I also got the knife bug. It started with cheap knives a my local Wal-Mart and a flea market (most being under $10). Now I am looking at over $50 knives, and starting to aim higher. My dad is about to break my hands for "wasting so much money" (I am 18, just still living at home).

well, it's gana be hard... now i acctually have a cure...

Instead of buying Bm's and spyderco's ... (which i used to do and get like 50 of em)...

instead buy Chriss reeves or Striders.. They are alot more expensive, but alot better quality and honestly the fit n' finish is just sooo nice ;)... it will really help ya slow down buying the lower-end knives too..

Only thing is that this might back-fire and make u spend all ur money in a day =p...

GOODLUCK =D!

Make a list of all the things you like / want in a knife - only buy those models that meet all your criteria.

Set a maximum number of knives for your collection - say 6 folders and 2 fixed blades.

Force yourself to sell one to make room for another one and don't expand past the 6/2.

Right now - sell anything that hasn't seen any carry time.

Good luck - since I slowed down my knife buying I've started buying pens again.:D

In fact I am seriously thinking about selling around 75% of my knives. Yes, I love nearly all of them, but truthfully I don't need so many of them.

The first thing you have to do if you really want to stop buying knives is stay off this forum. Don't look at knives in catalogs, magazines, online, or go into stores that sell knives either. Out of sight, out of mind.

1. Dont ever look at knives again and just be glad of what you have.
2. As the 1st reply says spend until you run out of money.
3. Find you a woman if you are not married and that will end the knife buying.
4. Last but not least just keep doing what you are doing and BUY KNIVES!!!!!!!!!!

My vote is for #4 and I dont have to worry about #3!:D:D:D:D

How would #3 work for me? I AM a woman. :D :p

My solution: run out of money. Works every time.

Going broke is really just the first step on the long road to recovery. It won't stop you but it will slow you down and make you start buying knives only when you have saved up for them. The save and buy step usually lasts a while until you get some big unexpected bills like hospital bills or major mechanic or home renovation/repair bills. Only then when you are completely broke and have real needs that require large amounts of cash will the ADDICTION start to fade. Not because you want it to but because it has to. But beware, it will come back just as soon as you have a little extra cash. Don't yo!u just love it

I'm not too sure how to break the habbit, but I can remind you that buying flowers for your gf/wife for no reason buys a lot of points. Set your sights on a knife that is in the top of your price range, buy the girlfriend the flowers and decide if you have the money left to buy the knife. lol well, it worked for me.

Tell yourself that for every new knife you buy you'll sell an old one that you aren't using. That's what I've been doing: every time I get a new one I put one of my older ones up for sale on the exchange.

This, and find some other hobbies besides knife collecting.

Trying to not buy more knives around a knife forum, is like a drunk trying to go sober hanging around a bar. Ain't gonna work.

I used to be a knife bug, but I sold/gave away about 80% of my stuff. Same with my guns. Just kept a hard core of what I really used day to day. Visit the forums less and you'll notice your buying go down. It gets ridiculous after a time. I mean, how much do you really need?
