Ok,

I lurk on the exchange part of the forum pretty often looking for that "Grail" knife...
But I just don't understand how so many of these deals are snatched up within 30 seconds to 1 or 2 minutes.
Is there some kind of "alert" text feature that links to your phone that I'm not seeing?
I wish i could spend all day refreshing the page for new deals...
But unfortunately I can't lol

I agree, it's frustrating to lurk for days seeing nothing you want, and then the right item pops up and is gone within 10 minutes. A couple of tomahawks on my want list have popped up multiple times in the last week, and I missed out on all of them. That's not as frustrating as a seller who posts that the first "I'll take it" followed by PM or email gets the item, when I can't PM at my membership level and the seller doesn't actually give an email anywhere in the description or profile. But it's like fishing, you keep at it and eventually you make the catch. I made a couple of good snags on minutes-old posts too, so I can hardly complain.

I dont have access to a puter during work so I miss a lot of deals but thats probably a good thing I really dont need any more knives lol

Hawks doesn't even come close to describing the buyers over on the Old Timey forums... More like vultures crossed with The Flash. I gave up on traditionals because I dont have the leisure to compete.

For the most part I've been able to get what I want in the Production Folders section by checking a few times an hour.

Be prepared. Know what you want. Know the fair market price. Have funds readily available. PP is commonly used and is quick. Check the appropriate sales forum a few times a day. Have fun.

You gotta think like a buzzard circling around fresh kill. Tuck your wings and swoop down and say, I'll take it.
Then have it for 2 to 4 weeks, decide it really isn't what you were looking for, and sell it back on here for a small loss.
Welcome to the sickness. But, look on the bright side, sooner or later you're gonna find, THE ONE.....OR TWO.....OR THREE.

Not sure if this happens on here but there are people that write algo's that continually search the Bay for certain items, I had some real rare Platinum Eagles that sold within minutes (like literally two minutes) from when I posted them so I asked the buyer how he found them so fast and he told me that he had an algo constantly searching the 'net for key words and it took him that long to log on and hit the BIN button and pay with PP. I am just not quite that dedicated

It can be frustrating for a new forum member, I understand, but after youve been for a while youll see that eventually the desired items turn up again and again. It might take a while and items might still get bought by others but eventually youll be at the right time and the right place.

I “watch” the different for sale Forums & whenever someone post a new item,
I get an email notification.
This is a good approach. Also, there's the Wanted To Buy sub forum if you have something specific in mind.

With a paid membership you can post a link to your Wanted To Buy thread in your signature so that it shows at the bottom of all of your posts.
