How do you afford it all?

You should spend some of those billions buying multiple copies of my book. :)
They make great gifts for everyone, for every occasion. ;)

I'll use the money I get to buy more knives.

Will do. Send me the name of the book. I'm on Tapatalk so I can't see your sig, but if I remember correctly you had it there at one point.

The two books out there right now are:
Stabman: Diary of a Superhero/Psycho

and

Brutal Justice: Your Guide to Being a Violent Vigilante, Crime-fighting Superhero

Available on many internet sites, including the Big River one. :)

Being a good person gets in the way of cash sometimes...I went to the bank today to do some banking and deposit a royalty cheque.
The teller looked at the book, and asked what the intended age range for it was; she was thinking of buying Brutal Justice for her 15 year old daughter.
I asked what sort of movies and games the girl liked...and it appeared that she is one of those wholesome, innocent sort of girls.
No way I was going to be responsible for warping her mind, so I had to advise against buying it. :(

I guess I'll have a clean conscience, but less cash. :D

Totally understand. Maybe a children's version next?

I am thinking of doing a children's book next; haven't decided on the topic though.
I guess a superhero themed one that talks about helping out in positive, non-violent ways might work out okay. :)

It would be a completely different sort of book than either of the ones I have written so far though. :D

Dude I thought you were full of s#&* until I saw a photo of you in a suit with you own designed knife. Lol. Well done!

Stabman, your book has been sitting in my amazon cart in the "saved for later" section for over two years.

Next knife I buy on Amazon, it's coming with it.

Thank you. :)
I am quite pleased with how both books turned out; thus far, people who bought the first one have enjoyed it.
Hopefully the same is true of the second.

Dress for success! ;)

Indeed! :D

I approve this message.

I don't really try to afford knives. If I like one, and have the disposable cash I'll buy it. I definitely don't save up or anything. I support a family with my income alone. Wifey takes care of the kiddo so I definitely don't have loads of extra cash. It helps that the most expensive knives I look at are in the 2-500 range so definitely not crippling financially.

I love knives but they are a side hobby where Watches are my primary vice. I do have to save up for them.

I eat a lot of leftovers and take my lunch to work. It's amazing how much you can save per week. I also only have two vices....., guns and knives.
Pretty much this, and I work 60 hours a week. I keep looking forward to the day when I'm done paying private school tuition for two kids; oh glorious day!

That private school almost killed us when we lived in Brooklyn! Almost $15,000 per year for 2 kids! We moved to NJ to get them in public school.......now property taxes are killing us!!
Horrible cycle!!

I eat off the Arby's snack menu, wear jeans that have a little deer blood from gutting it last fall, sometimes I cut my hair myself, I'm a DIYer, no cable TV, I keep that AC/Heat under control.. I'm always looking to save a little here and there. Average incomes, no kids. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Tony Bose slip joint or a Kimber 1911 if the price was right though.

I am lucky enough to have a job where I make 30 dollars an hour. No kids new fiance and at the end of the month with all bills paid in full I usually have around a grand or more in disposable income. Still doesn't mean I don't try to score sweet deals on used knives though! At the end of the day this knife hobby/addiction is nothing more than just that. If I ever needed the money I would sell every knife I own in a heart beat. I moved on from collecting firearms cause of the cost of ammo and accessories. Kept only a select few that I couldn't live without lol.

Awesome Thread!

I allow myself $100 a month in "Mad Money". I use that to purchase things like knives, water stones, and other outdoor/EDC gear. On top of that I have a self imposed ceiling of $150 for a knife for which there are many reasons. My other hobbies do not require much money, just time.

I can't afford new knives now.... so I make them :p

I recently bought a car, so I'm paying that off asap. Because of that I have gotten into the mindset of "do I need it?" and if I answer "no" I usually walk away. I'm actually slowly thinning down my collection to knives I only need. Finally gotten into the "if I don't use it I don't need it" mentality (but of course some knives are too sentimental to get rid of)

I haven't bought a new knife in 5 years, literally. I recently bought the Inkosi on lay-away, traded a watch for the SnG, and bought the Spyderco's at New Graham, as they have fantastic prices.

Same here....except that it might turn out to be at LEAST as expensive as buying em. LOL

Tell me about it! I have been making knives for about two years as a hobby but I'm still using basic tools and recycled steel like old files and such. I make my bevels using a file too. Even so, things get pricey quickly if you want your knives to look good!

I don't anymore; working part time and going to college full time will do that to you.

Once I graduate and get my career going, I'm going to buy a Screech Owl, a couple of Spydercos, and probably a Cold Steel Colossus.
