How do you carry your traditionals?

The traditional knife changes frequently but the one-hander and the juice (carried in a belt sheath) never change. No pouches - just loose in the pockets with keys, change, etc..

This time of year I use the right inner pocket of my leather jacket. Not as practical for quick access maybe, but no scratching and frees up the other pockets :)

Keys (with a little Vic Rambler & Fenix E01 attached,) lighter, chapstick, and whatnot in my right front pocket with a clipped one-hander. Coins in my coin/watch pocket (if my britches have one,) otherwise loose in right front pocket. Traditional folder in my left front pocket with no other hard objects.

I have a few 'nicer' knives that ride in leather slip pouches. I've also picked up a leather sleeve with a pocket clip to experiment with--we'll see how that goes, I reckon.

Excellent thread! I've enjoyed reading the responses!

It's the same for me every single day. Back right pocket standing up next to my wallet on the right hand side. Never changes. Keeps my pockets free for other stuff and easier access. This will never change.

When I first opened this thread, I thought, .........uh, in my pocket........, but then I read through some of replies. Consider my mind opened.

I almost always (27+ days a month) carry an Imperial EO jack from the '36-52 era. It goes in my pocket with whatever else is in there. It's a knife. No reason to fear scratches.

It depends on the mood I´m in, while putting my EDC for the next day together.

Mostly one in the left front pocket (I´m a lefty) or in the coinpocket of the jeans and the other is worn in my backpocket of the jeans I´m wearing. I usually carry two knives around with me... It the number of knives also depends on the mood.

I have a sheath for slippies, but this really on my mood or when I don´t want the handles/bolsters getting scratched.

Usually I carry my change in my wallet and the keys are anywhere, but usually not in pocket I keep my knives. But it can happen. ;)

I carry mine in a little suede slip pouch. The suede is grippy so it keeps the knife upright in my pocket, the knife never really moves around at all because of the suede. It's also very thin so there is almost no perceptible thickness added to the knife.

knife always in right front pocket in pocket sheath if traditional blade usually alone but I'll stuff other things in that pocket if I need to. Phone in left front pocket

I can carry up to three slippys at a time, but almost always carry at least one in my right watch pocket. Since I try to keep my front right pocket clear of carrying anything, if I decide to carry another slippy, it will ride in that pocket by itself. I carry my keys either clipped to my belt loop or in one of my insulated vest pockets. If I carry a third knife, it would go in a pocket on the inside of my vest that looks as if it were made just for a folding knife. I save my loose change, mini flash light, etc, for my front left pocket or any remaining pockets in my vest/jacket.

I have yet to try a slip pouch, but I have a feeling it would get cumbersome in my pocket. I might pick up one of the GEC pouches to see how it works out.

I like the idea of using a handkerchief as a buffer or for padding against other loose objects.. Might have to give that a try!

My traditional knife rides in a pouch with other things in my left front pocket. It's not that I worry much about scratching them, I used to carry everything loose in the pocket. But it's rather annoying when you have to fumble around in the pocket for a minute before you find what you were looking for :) (and the cellphone is thankful too :p ). Now everything is nicely organized and can be reached with one move.
Pretty much anything up to the 2012 BF knife or a 53 fits, although those larger ones usually are loose in the right front pocket instead of a one-hander.

that's a handy looking pouch Sturzi - did you create? or is that commercially available somewhere?

Thanks, I made that one myself so my items would fit properly. But it's mainly a conglomerate of ideas from several people here :)

I have grown up without any knife education and therefore have happened onto my way of doing things which seems to be at odds with the norm. I carry my pocket knives in my left front pocket and hold them in my left hand while opening the blade with my right thumbnail. When I get done with the knife, back in the LFP (see I am learning :) ) it goes.

Well TLARbb I carry my knife in my right front and open it with my left hand. I carry almost everything in my right front and at the end up having more in my pocket then I started the day with; nuts, bolts, fence staples, and other stuff that's uncommon. My knives usually gets pretty dinged up.

I like to wear 5.11 taclite pro pants with the front pockets.

I keep my phone in the flap pocket on the left and the knife in the pocket on the right. Front pocket wallet on the left, key fob on the right.

4 pockets. All used, but not overloaded.

Very much a creature of habit for me! If in jeans, the traditional goes into the coin pocket. If in anything else it goes into a velvet slip case. Velvet grips my pocket well so it will never fall out.

I used to carry a small knife in my watch pocket, but found that I like larger knives more. I then started buying cases to carry the larger jack knife or trapper. I found them acceptable, but at times they would look out of place, such as when I needed to dress up to go somewhere like church, a meeting, etc.

I then started just stitching a small pocket at the back of the right hand pocket of my pants. It separates the rest of the pocket from the knife. It's very easy and works great. Just turn your pocket out, and sew one line of stitches for however wide a knife that you want to carry. The knife slips into the newly sewn pocket easily, and comes out easily. Just push up on the bottom of the knife.
Now I carry any size folder I wish, and it is out of the way, and can't be seen. It's protected, and stays in place. And yet accessible.
It takes me approx. 10 min. to sew a line of stitches into my pocket. Simple like that.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that it still leaves enough room to put my hand in my pocket. I usually wear jeans or a pair of khaki's, but the pockets in my dress pants are even larger, so no problem there.
I find it very comfortable. It doesn't interfere when sitting down either. So far it's the most comfortable way I have found to carry a knife. I should add that I only carry traditional folders.
