How do you decide which EDC to carry?

I contacted Alan Davis. Told him what I wanted and listened to his advice on how to make it even more awesome. Then I harassed him for months with tweaks and changes until finally my perfect EDC arrived. I don't have to pick anything anymore.

Oh my that is nice! I have a Dozier K-42 "Compact Personal" (CPM154) that I have been trying to get used to carrying as an EDC. Love the Wharncliffe blade design for using on an EDC.

How to choose?

I EDC a Vic SAK Adventurer model. I love the knife. I chose it because it is large and fits the kinds of activities I routinely do. If I ding up the blade on a nail or something, I can always replace it for a very modest price and I actually keep a couple spares. I often carry a second folder, Spyderco Delica as an EDC.

If you are uncertain about which knife to carry, just rotate them and eventually you will settle on what you seem to like the best.

I think your thinking about it too much. I just carry what I feel like carrying that day and it may depend on where I'm going that day. Maybe I need to go light or maybe I want something stylish, that's the beauty of variety.
But either way I always have my Endura

I sharpen several at once... I'll carry one for awhile, and, unless I'm really attached to it, I'll switch to the next one once it's no longer ultra sharp. once I've rotated through several, I'll take a few minutes and touch them all up and start over.

Every morning I open the top drawer and say good morning, I usually fondle all the knives in my rotation and then try to figure out which one wants to go to work. Depending on the current environ that I seem to dwell in, I will tote the Sng when I'm around house or in relaxed atmosphere. I will pocket the micro commander or the mini 7 while on campus. The later two, due to smaller size and ease of palming if need be. Good luck on your daily conquest.

If you don't get knives that overlap so closely it makes it easier.

I would see which one "walks the walk" best in your hands one weekend and carry it most.

willydigger, I like that custom Tuff Lite

That's a good point.
So far, I've got a slicer, a hard-use, and a gadget folder. Whenever I get a knife that already fits in these groups, I give one away.
I have so many more types of knives to get... :D

it depends on what I'm wearing and what I'll be doing that day. if its an uneventful day i carry whatever catches my eye.

Sounds kind of weird, but I pick my knife to match the watch that I'm wearing. I collect watches as well as knives, and rotate them daily as well. Today was a Warren Thomas/Beretta Avenger, and a Bell & Ross BR03-92. Tomorrow being a 'work around the house' day, I've picked out my Kershaw Junk Yard Dog and a Seiko Black Monster watch.

I used to rotate through my collection until a couple of knives rose to the top of the pile. Now I only carry two (a large and a small folder). The current EDC duo only gets set aside for special jobs or foreign travel. I am still looking for better "mouse traps".

Sometimes I when I dont know if I want to go the to liquor store or not, or watch this movie or that one, or floss I flip a coin. Before the coin lands I know what I truly want to do.

I just ordered a comparable knife from Alan. When it arrives I don't think my EDC choice will be as tough as it is now.

Usually for me its my newest knife that I am carrying, but I always am going back to the PM2 and Sebenza

I carry the same knives for my normal EDC.

HOWEVER, where I am traveling/expected activity is usually the deciding factor.

My daily EDC is designed to work in the city, but I hike regularly so I have knives I prefer to take hiking, etc.

That being said, I buy folders when I find them on a good deal and put them away for a rainy day. Can't ever have too many quality pocket knives.
