CORRECT ANSWER: IT DEPENDS!

It really does. Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee used to drink his whiskey at about 60 proof when testing it. Said that was the best way to really taste the panoply of flavors.

Other "experts" have different ideas.

In my humble opinion, let the whiskey (or spirit) tell you what it wants. It will. Some will say, "I'm good as is." Others will say, "Chill me up a bit." Then some will say, "I NEED WATER!" "Only a drop for me, please," others will say.

Keep an open mind. And listen to the whiskey. You'll know when it's the "right" way to drink it, because once it lets you know, you won't go back to drinking it any other way.

Most whiskey tells me that it wants to be imbibed in a chilled glass -- no ice, no water. Neat.

Good scotch whiskey splash of water.
Good bourbon the same.
Decent scotch little more water.
Decent bourbon ice.
Don't drink cheap scotch and like to mix my cheap bourbon with ginger ale and ice.
Anybody try stones for their scotch whisky.
LET'S DRINKI!!
Cheers

I'm no help. It's either 7 and dew on light days or Yukon jack straight or with beer chaser. Lol

I have a set of stones, but can't afford whisky/ey good enought to use them.

My usual is a generous pour of Evan Williams with two cubes. With a better bourbon, one cube.

........my favorite is during a good lightning storm, just turn all the lights out and stoke up the fireplace, get comfortable an watch the world slip out of focus mmmmm.
I used to love the same feeling, but not from alcohol:o .....now it's a good single barrel over ice with or without the storm.

Boss, you included 'none of these,' essentially, but not all of these. I had to assume you meant good scotch (since I hear that's your main drink), and answered neat. Because for me that's the only way to drink good scotch. Unless it is with just 2 or 3 drops of natural water (well water, absolutely not treated at a water plant).

I do have some whiskey stones, but rarely use them. I didn't find them doing much chillin' and just got in the way.

Neat or an ice cube! The nose opens better with a little ice, but the viscosity takes a hit.

Talk to me HOGs!!!

I can't vote as I've never bought any, and therefor have none. However, I like to drink YOUR scotch with a cube or 2 of ice. ;):)

Also, I need you to lower your knife prices just a bit. JWB is not a deal here in PA and O2W is takin' all my dough!!!:D ;)

Dalwhinnie 15 Yr old single malt. Great scotch for a beginner.
Highland Park 18 Yr old single malt. Seasoned drinkers only.
Neat with 2 or 3 drops of water.

Straight from the old crockery that it's aged in. It's not called Scotch but the way they make the shine and age it gives it a taste of Whiskey at first and Scotch a few months later; GOOD stuff.

Depends on the scotch, my mood, and what I am smoking.

Right now im sipping The Balvenie 17 year Doublewood neat in a glencairns with some Frog Morton in my custom Davorin morta pipe.

Before dinner I had a few drams of Ardbeg Corryvrecken with a large round stone in a lowball, smoking SG Squadron Leader from a Peterson Mark Twain bent billiard.

I let the universe tell me how i will enjoy my drinks.
