How do you feel about Benchmade's "Infidel" name?

I could personally care less if they call it "death to all...( pick your own group). I just don't care one bit. JL

in fact, I'm very respectful about Mr. Castro… just a joke

If you've violated your cerfew and need to get back to your room, in the basement, before Mom and Dad find out - then the Infidel can help you deanimate your parent's barking dog, before he compromises your mission.

The Benchmade Infidel is a [rich] Mall Ninjas fantasy come true.

I dont care about the name and I still want one. It is not what I would name something, but whatever.

First, it is very important to understand that the Infidel is a legitimate military knife that BM developed at the request of the US military. While those supplied to the military don't have the Infidel name on them, they are otherwise the same knife and the US military is actively buying and deploying this knife. So, it is not a fantasy.

So, why is the civilian version? Well, there is the obvious reference to the war on terrorism which, I think, we all know is really a war on Islamic fundamentalism. But, then there is that wonderful double entendre that Mr. Chin Mullet posted the explaination of in his post #5 above.

What's in a name? Just marketing .... and if it works, it says more about the customers who buy it than the manufacturer.

At least "Infidel" makes more sense than naming knives after firearms.

I think it is the perfect name.

Benchmade will be coming out with their "Hajji" model shortly. It is also an automatic knife similar to the Infidel that opens straight out from the handle, except that the Hajji opens backwards, with the blade pointing towards you instead of away. The Hajji comes in a desert camo finish and the blade is coated with some sort of brown substance to block the possible glare from the intense sun of the desert regions. A miniture version of a camel spider engraved in the Hajji's handle. Here is a picture of a camel spider if you have never seen one. I think the Hajji's blade is made from VG-10, the steel with cobalt in it (except I believe the cobalt used in these models comes from Israel and will be radioactive, not sure).

I can't wait to get my new Hajji!

Some history about the origin of the Hajji may be in order for the newbies.

I like the name too and enjoy the irony of its origin but on Benchmade's site they quote the knife as being "[the Infidel is] an operators fantasy come true". Clearly aimed at wannabe's.

I'll buy it JUST for the name.............and I'll endorse the Haji knife with a few minor design changes. It must be a ballistic knife and shoot the blade backwards towards user. The we must airdrop thousands over provinces with much insurgent activity.

I like it. I am an infidel, why not have my knife be one as well!
Right on! In the minds of the terrorist scum who would destroy our liberties and way of life, we're infidels ..... IMO that gives it a lot of prestige.

If they lowered the price a bunch, I might be interested in it.

Personally, I don't care what they call it.

Better "infidel" as opposed to "Ultimate De-animator Uber-ninja Death Sickle & Eviscerator"

i guess since every mean animal name & demonic name has been used for knife names, its time to hit the religious & human scene.if no one likes the infidel name, how about calling it the benchmade dahmer otf ?

It's simple, all the other names are taken!

Don't let the name put you off--fit and finish are fantastic and very nearly worth the high price. Rumor has it the nickname for this one while it was in development was the "Microtech Killer"!

I like the Scarab alot better. I think it is part of Benchmade's design philosophy to make their knives as big and bulky as possible. I do want a Rukus though.

Without trying to appear as an insensitive troglodyte, I'd say people are getting their feelings hurt way too easily.

I like it. Cool sounding name.
It gives the liberal apologists something to whine about, so they should like it, too. Everybody needs a sense of purpose in their lives:jerkit:

I hadn't seen that. That is disappointing and not the sort of thing BM has done in the past.

As I have said in the past, if we want the media to stop weaponizing and demonizing knives, a good first step would be for us to stop weaponizing and demonizing knives.

While I do agree with you about the "demonizing" part, Chuck, it would be extremely difficult to convince ANYONE inside of the knifeworld, or out, that the Infidel is anything but a weapon.

It is an OTF dagger grind knife with a fuller, that is not what we call a "utility tool", anywhere. The shape is not optimized as a cutting utility tool, it is optimized as a stabbing instrument.

I like the name. And i beleiv eit is a reference to eastern religion rather than judeo-christian beleifs. either way i like it.

Im gonna stich to microtechs though. I am starting to dislike benchmades at this point i dont lfeel much like purchaseing a middle of the road knife like a benchmade for the price of a microtech, reeve, busse, strider, ETC

no offense to you benchmade lovers, i might buy a skirmish some time.
