How do YOU! get away with it???????

[/B]
Bladite, this is true . . . My wife & I had one of our "tiffs" as we call them (can't even remember what it was about), and her parting words were, "You have to go to sleep sometime . . . . "
Ahhh, the good old days . . .
Be safe.

Pics if it happens, hope she don't cut off you sausage....

Man that sausage removal is par for the course when someone cheats in South-East Asia. Seriously, everyday... lopped off......(shudder)

"well sweetheart, I guess I could spend the money on prostitutes..."

In all seriousness, as long as I'm not blowing budgets, i'm in the clear. she's even tried to learn about different grinds, etc. but I can see it's a chore to her. I should get her something nice.

what's a good knife for a chick? :D

I just set the tempo real early on. I'd say "I'm gonna get an AK-47" and she say "no way" or something like that. Then I'd go get the AK-47 and she wouldn't be happy about it for awhile but then six months or so later I'd hit her with " look at this Glock I'm gonna get" and she'd say " no more guns". Then I would buy that glock, I think I just wore her down and stood firm and was maybe a bit of a pecker about it. Then for christmas one year she asked me what I wanted and I told her all about this Mossberg shotgun that would be mine very soon. Dude, she bought it for me and I knew I'd forever won that battle. stay firm.

SAK any of them. I gave my gf a cadet, and since then she never asked me if I had a knife.

OT: I know my limits, and don`t go over. Also I usually reasearch thouroghly and weigh pros and cons before I make a purchase. So far the only complaint I`ve gotten was when I bought a Fiskars and a Granfors the same day.

I generally make my play money outside of what we allocate for "bill" money. If I ever find this guy "bill", I'm gonna kill his ass. I generally spend $200-$300 a month on knives, guns, gear, etc. a year. Some months nothing, other months, alot. Thing is, I make the money in my house, I pay of the car, house, kids, bills, groceries, etc. What she makes, barely covers gas and "enterainment".

As long as I'm not taking money from my family, I spend what I want, when I want, so, I work extra to pay for my playthings. I buy her whatever she wants, the cool thing is, she doesn't want much. House and security are enough for her, with the occational frivolty, ever so often, she's good.

As I 've said before on here, my wife's thing is horses. It's not called the sport of kings for nothing. What she spends on horses ea. month, most people spend on rent. Serious. (H3ll she just bought a $2500 dressage saddle)
So what I spend is no issue.

The time issue is funny. She's committed 365 24/7. They gotta' eat.
Again no issue for my time. Plus I got her a couple knives. Little SAK
and a small Kabar folder I had. She likes 'em.

But every hobby/sport cost money. Cars, skiing, snowmobiles, motorcycles,
hunting, guns, knives, whatever ... all cost money.

Plus, she's pretty cool. We both look at things the same way. Money is meant to be spent. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Said this before too: On their death bed, no one ever wished they worked more.

Moral of the story: get your girl into an expensive time consuming hobby :D

I guess I lucked out as well. Mine hasn't given me grief over anything. Plus she was a born and raised outdoorsy girl anyways, so she is pretty supportive of me getting into the whole outdoors thing. Course, I don't buy that many knives, and when I do buy, I don't get 'em before a ridiculous amount of research.

Here is a list of all the knives (non-kitchen) I own:
BK2
BK3
BK14
Old Camillus Marine Combat
Leatherman Skeletool
Gerber Diesel
Pohl Force Alpha Two

And a couple of cheapies I have picked up over the years... That's it.

I had a Kershaw Tanto Blur, but since I got the Pohl Force I knew it would just end up sitting in a drawer, so I gave it to a buddy that didn't have a knife at all. Don't really need anythign else except maybe a big knife, which I am hoping the Brutus will take care of for me.

But on the other hand, she likes her purses, and shoes, and stuff for her Jeep, so it evens out. Like Cobra281 said, money is meant to be spent, and I have always felt that if I need more money, there is more out there to get, just gotta go work for it.

The only problem is that mine is a project focused life, so once I get done getting all the gear I need for the outdoors stuff, I am going to need a new project, and I am pretty sure that is going to be my XJ. And that will be pricey. Thankfully she is fully on board with that as well.

Just like the military used to deal with homosexuals, don't ask don't tell. She doesn't ask and I don't tell.:o

And if she does ask I change the subject.

okay, important paradigm shift (yes, i had to use that word) ;)

you are not "getting away with it"... that implies you are doing something wrong. you're not. this is a normal thing. everyday. you're hobby. you're interest. you're pursuit.

now, do you have some kind of agreement in place? no? then you're not getting away with anything. is the agreement being implied, coerced, or forced? maybe? non-binding then. you have to agree of your free will without coercion ;)

so, there you have it. you have to re-program yourself. this isn't a bank robbery. this isn't a get away :)

zippy doo dah baby

Given the way a lot of these posts are turning out Bladite, I think that most of us don't really view it like that. Maybe a little tongue-in-cheek, but otherwise I think most of us here don't seem to have that problem.

i think the ones that are not posting, are the ones who need mental help right now... perhaps their SOs are not letting them post :) "why are you wasting time on that dumb forum again, go shovel snow! and bring me my bon-bons!" :)

rawr :>

There is an old Yiddish saying : "Shrouds have no pockets in them"
:)

Oh , and another one : You live only once , and that's the best case scenario .

LOL !!!! HILARIOUS... that's it they must be shoveling snow;)

I've always found it amusing when someone tells me they're normal, really?? normal people scare me.. an old girl friend told me something a hundred years ago that has stuck with me.. she told me 'you're weird, but in a good kinda way'..

Umm, Okay..:barf: Oh and I guess you're normal??

anyhow I don't think anyone of us are far from needing mental health time and again, that's why I break away every so often with nature, whether it be fishing, hunting, boating, camping or simply hiking, it helps me stay in tune..

Cobra281, I've got your back on this one if anybody thinks otherwise. During my school years & a few of them afterwards, we had two quarter horses that showed as Superior Pleasure. I know what the cost was to keep the tack room "up to date", and we are talking several years ago (early to mid 70's). I could not imagine the cost associated with showing them in the present time. After I moved away, my younger brother got into the barrel racing aspect, & finally just did not have the time to put into it what was needed to be successful.
You have my utmost respect for being able to continue this "sport" in this day and age.
Be safe.

I tell her that she is so "sharp" both intellectually and physically that she has provoked my addiction for all things sharp. She has made no complaints since. But if you use that line you best be able to maintain an expression of deep sincerity.

I went and started a business dealing with this stuff, there's so much stuff coming and going she can't keep track, not that she has an issue with it anyway. if there is too much around the house at any point I just say it's for product review. :D

My way works quite well for me, but YMMV. I take a small amount of my paycheck and have in direct deposited into my own personal bank account. It's a negligible amount and doesn't interfere with our budget. It takes several paychecks before I have enough to do anything substantial with, but the Mrs is ok with it. I have my play money, and our budget stays on track.

Oh, and I tell her how blessed I am to have her a lot. That helps too... :D
