How do you group your knives?

I want to change my answer ( fess up as it were ) .

How do you group your knives?

I don't .
I just ask my knife valet for accoutrement of the moment .
I suppose she has some sort of system for keeping track but I don't care to work a nerve and delve into that . 😎

Mainly users, and standby self defense/emergency tools. I use but never abuse the users. The self defense get carried, but never used at all - likewise the emergency tools - so they are very sharp and always "ready to go!".

I've had some collectible knives - Randalls - but don't have the income to be a serious collector of expensive knives. But I do have some military and others which I like and probably will never use. I like the reissues category some makers of military knives have opened up often quite affordable.

I don't sort them much either. Few are more precious than the others, but I have a rule of thumb: if a knife can't handle where it goes, it's not for me.

All users but have too many to actually use. Maybe 40-50 folders but rotate what fits on magnet blocks above the sink. The rest are in a couple of tool boxes along with 15 or so fixed. The fixed are users to but really never used unless fishing this days.

I forgot to mention my separate knife wallet with just my Boker Urban Trappers .
Just got the Jigged Titanium version yesterday . (all great and sharp , dropping , flipping , no play , two thumbs up goodness )
That makes about seven (I'm afraid to go count 'em) .

aaaaannnnd I'm considering a separate drawer for all my blue handled knives now since they are among my fave's and I am getting a good number of them . Recently acquired :
Blue Shaman Spy27
Blue UKPK SPY27
Blue SpydieChef Titanium

there are even some in there that aren't Spyderco , e.g. Blue Blur !

comin' home to the Blues

All my knives were bought to be users. But no matter what new "favorite" edc I buy, there are a few that always end up back in my pocket. As far as grouping them, I have them separated into two cases: Modern, and Traditional. Then there are a few CRKs, Bucks, SAKs, & Cases that get used all the time. I keep them handy, in a small bowl on top of the gun safe, so I don't have to dig them out when I want them.

No grouping for me, I only have about a dozen knives at the moment. My edc folder and keychain SAK live in my pocket until they get put away at night with my wallet, keys, and other pocket stuff. A couple blades with sentimental value live on a shelf, but the rest are spread throughout my toolboxes and vehicles.

There is no real organizing, they just kinda get put with my other tools and go where they’re needed. Long as I have my normal folder I don’t stress too much about it.

I group all my knives in three groups slipjoint, folding locking and fixed blades. The ones I really like and work well for me based on a test I do with every knife I get and put in a carry rotation are in a lunchbox and ones I don't use are stored in boxes with their type in basement. Since starting this knife addiction Ive so much crap it's like Christmas everytime I take stored away stuff out since I forget I had things so it's a lot of fun and things I forget I have and don't want anymore I give away.
I also should mention if I really like a knife I get another one to store away.
I'm going to hopefully be looking down from heaven and watch my kids fight over all these knives after I die hopefully it doesn't get too violent🙂
