How do you guys save money around the home?

I have the shoe type DMs maybe different than the boots? The Mrs. had a pair go three years in a restaurant setting.

I will look into Danners.

Hey if they work for you that's cool. I wore them pretty hard at my work, every day too, I'd take excellent care of them too, always cleaning and greasing them when needed, but they still fell apart.

Still, my Danners are better on all accounts: triple stitched where it matters, they are gore-tex lined for water resistance (it also helps with comfort to have a lining), the stitch down vibram soles are good if they ever need replaced and are more comfortable then DM's outdated "bouncing soles", thicker and more durable leather, come in widths as well as lengths for sizing, better uppers, and are made in America. They're a really amazing deal if you compare them to Doc Martins.:)

So in keeping with the spirit of this thread, buy really expensive stuff because it lasts longer :D That's only true to a point, but it's something I try to live by.

Plant a vegetable garden. Can veggies, or freeze them. Can or freeze fruit from your own trees/bushes (longer term). buy as unprocessed food as possible..cheaper/better often..in bulk if appropriate.
Cook pots of veggie soup/chili/chicken soup...if you like it you can eat the same for several days in a row.
Enjoy that child....and remember grandparents love to enjoy grandkids too!
Congratulations!

A couple more:

Brew your own beer and wine. I make some good wine with the well water we have here, and a bottle of homemade wine makes an easy gift too.

Credit cards, treat them with respect just as you would your firearms.

Pay the card off before the due date, or don't use the card period. If you need to pay for a big bill, like and unexpected repair, use the card, but if you can't pay it off before the due date, use a line of credit to clear the card.
