How do you haul your gear?

I use a regular backpack for day hikes as well as camping. My gf uses a Mountainsmith Tour lumbar pack. I like the lumbar pack and I think I'd like to try that idea out. I would appreciate hearing suggestion for something similar to a military buttpack, but not so tactical/military looking.

Also, I would also appreciate seeing pictures of the way you haul your gear on your outdoor outings.

Thanks much!

I use a Camelback for dayhikes, it has a tag that says D-Fit, dunno if thats a model or a feature. Its a 3l with a main comp plus 2 more. Does all I need for a day trip and more. For multiday I have a 70L backpack with a hydration system and internal frame, not military looking at all.

Kifaru Tailgunner II for me. Perfect size for up to a 3 day trip or so.

Maxpedition Colossus for me. I am looking at the Vulture II for longer trips.

For day hikes I use a CamelBak Ambush. It has a large hydration bag and two pockets on it. The pockets can pack lots of stuff and I wish there weren't so big so I could not carry all the stuff that I do. :p

I like the Camelbak Rim Runner for dayhikes through overnighters and potentially more, depending on how I pack it.

It has a nice big 3 liter bladder, and an advertised 26 liter capacity. The compression straps let it quickly and easily go from a trail running bag to an overnight bag, and anywhere in between.

For longer trips, I have an old external frame pack from the 70s. The suspension isn't so great, and I think I'm going to replace it before I need to use it next.

i dont get out as much as i would like so i cant talk to a 2 - 5 day pack
but i like useing my new camelbak cloudwalker for day hikes and possible overnights

I'm normally out with my 8 yr old and don't get real far off the "beaten path" but what I use is the Maxpedition Fatboy Jumbo Versipack.

I've been interested in a lumbar pack for a while as well. I haven't had the money to buy one to try out yet though. I've never seen one in person, but I like the looks of some of the ones offered by True North Gear : http://www.truenorthgear.com/product_listing.php?path=0_1

I have two packs that I use now. One is an internal frame pack from LL Bean that works really well for me for one night trips, and will probably be fine for 2-3 nights if I ever manage to get the time for a longer trip like that. The other is a Kelty external frame. The suspension system isn't as comfy as on the internal frame pack, but it offers all kinds of options for adjustments, so maybe I've just never really gotten it set up right for me. The big advantage of the external frame is that it has 2 compartments in the main body of the pack as well as 5 smaller external pockets, which makes organizing and accessing my gear much easier. . . I don't have to unload the whole pack in order to get to something that I loaded in the bottom. Also, you can lash things to the frame if you want or need to for even more carrying capacity. I usually use the external frame for shorter hikes where I don't mind some extra weight and I want to take more "luxury" items. . . french press coffee maker, non dehydrated food, a book or two, extra bedding or clothing, etc.

Thanks for suggesting True North. I've never heard of 'em before. Their gear looks like some of the stuff I had in mind.

Thanks.

That's pretty cool. How do you carry your H2O?

F150.

Oh, drrrr. You mean after I get out of the truck. Urm, depends! Lumbar pack, Camelback, small day pack, hunting vest. Depends on what I'm doing, how far I'm going, etc. Don't usually have a need for a big pack -- can't remember the last time I went on a hiking/camping trip. Car camping's been about it for me for years.

So, yeah. F150.

That is sick bushman!
Would you be interested in doing a list of contents?

I just use the Falcon, works fine, its also my SAR pack but I take it on any other outings.
