How do you identify a HHFSH?

I need your help, does anyone have a side by side of an FSH and an HHFSH? Also what the best way of telling them apart?

Greg

The key is thickness. In order of thickness, the SH line runs: FSH, HHFSH, HOGFSH, MOASH.

I don't have numbers handy, but someone will be along shortly who knows.

I'm sure somone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the only difference is blade thickness, so a side by side shot isn't going to help. For that matter, a spine shot probably won't help either. When someone chimes in with the relative thicknesses of the two in question, you can go measure, but you're either going to need calipers or another knife with a known thickness of one of the two to make absolutely sure.

I think the primary grinds are different as well. The HH is sabre ground. Here is a pic of mine:

The regular FSH was just flat ground I think.

Yeah, now that I think about it, I believe zephy5 is right.

Only one I have left is the MOASH, and it's flat ground.

That was also my understanding...that the HHFSH was sabre ground.

I'd have to agree with the Sabre grind way of determining which is which. I've owned both and the std FSH was a flat grind and the HHFSh was a Sabre grind.

U forgot the NASA FSH......

To bad it's not mine!:(

From the Archive, on blade thickness.
FSH: 1/4 or 0.25 " ; HOFSH & LEHOFSH: 5/16 or 0.31 "
I have an HHFSH that measures 0.27 " and GUYON can measure his MOASH to give you a figure. Also from the Busse Archive, the HO's have a full height grind whereas the FSH & HHFSH are saber ground. Again, from GUYON, the grind on the MOASH is flat. Pete

I thought the NASA was a HHFSH without logo. It's definitely sabre ground because I have one too.

there's another difference between the both of them , the NASA HHeart is supposed the float in outer space!

:D
:D

HHFSH is 0.27 inches with coating, the FSH is 0.25 with coating.

The HHFSH is a high sabre grind and I think that the FSH is not but not sure as I got rid of my last one.

The two on the top are Heavy Hearts. The two on the bottom are FSH's.

The FSH's have a convex grind. The HH's have a sabre grind.

So it possible that an SH which measures exactly .25 is an HHFSH? Here is a photo, sorry I don't have my caliper handy. FWIW I believe it has a sabre grind.

Again THANKS everyone!

No, that is incorrect. The only production Busse model to have convex main grind is the SJT.

While a general rule of thumb is that the sabre grind indicates you have a Heavy Heart, there were some early FSH models that also had the sabre line. You can see it in the new logo:

Welllll...maybe not....:o

I've heard...not seen, but have heard...that there was more than one HHFSH that didn't measure much different than the std FSH.

I was going to mention that but figured that he had mis-spoke, and meant to say "Flat" grind rather than convex grind. But like Rick said, when the FSH first came out, alot of folks who had the first models were stating that it had a sabre grind...all I know is that the one I had and the ones I've seen have had flat grinds. :D

I had a regular FSH, and it had a convex main grind, but not a full one. It was about a 2/3 convex main grind.

Greg I'm betting you have an early model FSH...or you may have one of the very few rumored HHFSH that don't measure over 0.25", or you may have a china knockoff that isn't worth anything at all...you might want to send it to me to examine, I promise I'll have it back to you in a couple of weeks!;)

As far as I know Greg (which in some cases ain't much) like Rick was saying the SJTACs were the first Busses to have a blade with a convex grind. I think some of us may be confusing the edge (convex grind) to the blade grind... Which on most busses is either flat or sabre.
