How do you identify a HHFSH?

Post #13 shows the difference between the two well.

I guess once you've seen them in person its obvious, I'm only seen the one and I guess I just assumed it would be more "different". Anyway I love this community and this was a great learning experience!

It's a subtle difference to some... and it's difficult to go down to the store and 'see for yourself'... :D I think the HH have the closest feel to The Precious...

I am also thankful for the pictures posted here - it really helps to understand what's out there. The folks hanging out here are happy to help.

Good luck!

John

Also, comparing the photos of BusseCollector and Rat-30 from this thread, the knives in the logos themselves appear different. The Heavy Heart logo looks to show The Fusion SH, ( HH ?) with grind line and the Standard FSH logo looks like it shows the Steel Heart Ergo. Perhaps logo placement and this difference could be used or did Jerry change the logo used during the course of FSH production ? That tricky guy always seems to be up to something to make life more interesting. Pete

They're black, some black look green or gray to me... part of the variations... :D

Alas, some of these are gone, others have been added... I have had quite a few pass through my hands in the quest for the 'one'... 'The Precious'... :D

I don't think that is "The Precious", you should send it to me and keep looking:D

This thread, has confirmed two things I already knew about myself 1) I have much to learn about Busse Knives 2) I love Steel Hearts :D

Taken from the Busse Combat website:

The Satin Jack TAC is the first blade ever produced by Busse Combat that features a full-height convex grind adding to its overall strength and cutting power. It will surely become one of your favorite blades and will set a new standard for other knives of its size and intended application.

So this is the basis for my claim regarding the grinds. I am willing to accept that I am wrong, but Jerry usually knows what he's talking about.

The best I can determine from my observations of the logos, the SHe logo was used on the FSH until late FSH production, just before the HH was released to the Company Store. Maybe the HH was conceptualized and/or in production, Jerry liked the lines, and changed the logo as a subtle zen message of things to come? :D

I do know that I have seen FSH with both logos, and HH only with the current HH logo... :D

Ok... ;) Well, maybe later, I'm pretty sure this is "The One, The Precious..." There are many like it, but this one is mine. :D

As far as I know Greg (which in some cases ain't much) like Rick was saying the SJTACs were the first Busses to have a blade with a convex grind. I think some of us may be confusing the edge (convex grind) to the blade grind... Which on most busses is either flat or sabre.

No he is right, there are FSH out there that are convex ground, I have seen one. I don't know how many there are, but I have seen one for sure. It is also possible that it wasn't convex from cutting edge to spine also, like one had said it might be 2/3 convex transitioning to a flat grind. Now the SJTACLE might be the only model that was convex ground thoughout the production run, but there are definitely convex ground FSHs out there. I think the one I saw was at Blade last year or year before last. (At least I am pretty sure I saw it with my own eyes, someone had a business card set against the "flat" and there was definite curvature, I swear I had not been drinking at the time. :D)

And this beautiful thing had a convex primary grind - A 3x5 note card would rock on the side of it. If it was sabre ground, it was so subtle I could not determine it, and I was looking. :D

what defaultuser said and pmsayre153 asked about, on the heavy hearts the logo is below the grind line.

Rick, I think the difference is Jerry's reference to "full-height" convex grind. The FSH's were not full-height.

My OD/standard blk FSH has a convex grind... not full height, but a straight edge shows a "bow" or convex across the height of the grind.

.

Sorry for dredging up an old thread but for the guys who own both the saber ground SHs and the flat ground ones which do you prefer and why? I'm in the market for a FSH and there are a couple HHFSH available but I was thinking the flat ground ones would be better cutters just because of the profile. Anyone with experience care to weigh in?

thanks,

Greg

The best way is by the saber. HOG grade is full height. Combat Grade is a relatively low saber but it's subtle and is not apparent in some pics, especially with black crinkle coat. The HH has a relatively high saber and it is also more distinct in appearance imo. Hope that helps. The other, more obvious route is calipers but from pics I think grind height and "clarity" of that sabre is the best.

Boy, the prices of these is going crazy lately, wish I had grabbed one before the INFI-flation. :grumpy:

What a great thread - all these pics have got me super excited for my 3C Custom Shop FSH to arrive from the 'ganzaa!
