How do you identify a HHFSH?

Wow, thanks for the offer, Solstice, but I don't have it anymore. If I did, it'd be on it's way. :D

Don't really know how to prove it without the knife, but I think Porkerson will agree. Not too long after I got it, about 1 1/2 years ago, there was a thread that this came up in. I first called it a flat grind, then commented that it actually looked convex. Eric chimed in and said it was a partial convex main grind, and a ruler confirmed it.

Blame him! :D :D

Don't make him mad, though, or he'll infract you...

Sorry about the incorrect assumption about the FSH. Don't have one, just the HH and, as the archive does not mention the FSH grind, assumed it was the same as the HH. Well, ask the man who owns one, as you have. Got your answer, or are you scouting for calipers or a micrometer to detect the 0.02 " difference ? Pete

No, that is incorrect. The only production Busse model to have convex main grind is the SJT.

While a general rule of thumb is that the sabre grind indicates you have a Heavy Heart, there were some early FSH models that also had the sabre line. You can see it in the new logo:

Rick

Really.

I'm holding the third one down in my pic and it has a convex grind.

The fourth one down in the photo had a convex grind too. Unfortunately, I had to sell just a few months after I purchased it.

The convex grind on the FSH is not as pronounced as my HOGSJTACLE, but it's certainly not a flat grind.

The Heavy Heart has a pronounced Sabre Grind
My Fusion Steel Hearts have had a very slight sabre grind to a slight convex by my eye and 'card' test.
The HOGFSH is flat ground, as is the SHSH

I hope that helps.

Rat-30,

I particularly like that camo version you have.

Are those green linen handles on it?

Congratulations on a nice bunch of FSH's.

They're black, some black look green or gray to me... part of the variations... :D

Alas, some of these are gone, others have been added... I have had quite a few pass through my hands in the quest for the 'one'... 'The Precious'... :D

The word "Precious" does have a plural form, doesn't it? :)

It's an adjective I'm using as a noun, not sure... BUT it's the best way to describe my appreciation for 'my ultimate' Busse... :D

Precious in Dutch is zeldzaam
Precious in German is kostbar
Precious in Italian is prezioso
Precious in Portuguese is completamente
Precious in Spanish is precioso, valioso

Precious in Texan is, MINE. :D

Pete,

What I have is an xxxSH that is .25 to the naked eye; my understanding was that you could distinguish an HHFSH from a FSH because of the difference in thickness. I’m not sure if you can actually distinguish the .02 difference without a caliper (I originally thought the difference was more significant), so now I’m hoping someone with both could give me a surefire way of make a determination. Or I can post any photos possible if that would help the community decide.

I guess what I’m thinking is if it’s that hard to tell them apart how do you folks know that you have a HH and not an FSH?

Greg

I have a FSH with a convex grind.
A HHFSH with a sabre grind and
A FSH-LE with a full flat grind.
All are easily differentiated and recognizable.:)

Excellent, can you please look at my photos from post 14 and let me know which one it is?

Let me know if you need better photos.

Please post a side angle shot, showing the grind line.

Here are a few of HH... note the logo position in the line of the grind. I find the logo lower on the HH than the standard FSH.
