How do you justify spending so much $ on a knife?

Justify? No justification needed.

It is my money I am spending, I spend it on things I enjoy.

I find that people just don't understand when it comes to knives. I have bought many cheap knives in my time and have been very disappointed...so the knives I buy now are pretty expensive but they are worth it

High quality knives will last a lifetime, unlike purses and suits. I only show my knives to people who can really appreciate them and never never tell them how much I really spent. Most people think $100 is too much for any knife. I paid over $300 for a Busse large fixed knife and worth every penny.

You can't really explain to NKP's. When hostilely quizzed by those people I just give them a tired and exasperated look and ask them, "would you even know a quality knife when you saw one?"

Are high quality hand tools worth having?
They are to people who know how to use them.

Anyway, the BM store wouldn't take less than $350 for the Sebbie.

Most people spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars a year on junk food and movies.
Not to mention all the other money sucking bad habits you can have, and some of those will even kill you.

Knives are easy to rationalize in comparison.

As so many others have said: Why do you have to explain anything to anybody? (unless you have some sort of sponsor or it is your wife -or spouse or significant other-).
If it's a NKP, no explanation is going to make any difference.

One rolex can be handed down for generations, can't say that for sieko.the same is true for your knife.

Wearing a Seiko is still WAY cheaper - I can buy a new Seiko every few years for a fraction of the price of routine servicing for a Rolex. I have a Seiko that still works fine that I bought over 2 decades ago, nothing spent on it except a new battery every 7 years or so.

A knife is different - it can last for decades with no cost above an occasional wipe with oil and an occasional sharpen.

I don't have to justify anything to anyone. My friends don't ask what I paid for stuff.

Recently there was a Rolex that was bought in the 60s (don't quote me on that) for $70, it sold the other day in 'good' condition for $61,000.

Easy, I wanted it.

It's hard for some people to understand the difference between good and poor quality knives.

Look at the people spending hundred of thousands if not millions for a hand made painting....The painting can't help feed you, can't help cloth you, can't fend off attackers...Can't open mail or put away boxes, can't cut the chord to your first newborn baby(I am just being silly on this one but it would be fun to whip out a Xm-18 or other custom tactical blade in the delivery room to see the horrafication of the nurses and doctor sheep lol), can't even take out a splinter. Knives are tools. The good ones cost more

I usually compare it to something that they like.

For example some of my female friends like purses. So I ask them why not go to Walmart and buy a 10-15$ purse instead of your $500+ coach/gucci/LV/Juicy purse? Whats the difference in the quality between the two? Heck my Sebenza only cost 375$ so I saved well over $125 then you did on the purse. On top of that, I won't toss this knife to the side when next years lineup comes around and your purse isn't in style anymore. Then they usually shut up.

For some of my guy friends that are into cars/tools etc its not very hard to explain. But for some people I try to explain well whats the difference between say the Dollar store wrench and say a snap-on/mac/proto wrench? Whats the quality difference and the warranty like?

Everyone has their vice that they splurge on, the trick is to find theirs and compare it to yours.
