Right, when the wife says NO MORE!! then you have enough knives.:D

When you have found a really nice one that has become your EDC...and you've sold off just about everything else...with a few exceptions that sit in the safe...:)

I don't know, I'm still trying to make that determination when it is enough, I know it's not today.

I have a grand total of 10, and that includes 4 kitchen knives.

To each his own. it is a bit of a foreign concept to me. I have more kitchen knives in my kitchen drawer than that; big ones, middle sized ones, small ones. I especially have a lot of paring knives that I use for steak knives and just about everything kitchen related.

I have more swiss army knives.

To answer your question, I have enough knives. But I will continue to pick up new ones as they catch my interest whether I use them or not. Why? I like knives. It is all about fun.

How do you know? When you read or see about a new knife and say.... my xyz is just as good. Don't need it or want it. Repeat. Then you know.

As many have already said, it's not about how many you need, it's just about wanting the new knife. How can I ever have enough when there are so many more out there? Haha!

I just enjoy collecting knives. I have my regular users, and some that I rotate. But I just love knives, and I'm sure I will always want more.

If you have been a knife enthusiast for longer than a few days then you surely have enough knives, but if you are a knife enthusiast then you will never have enough knives.

Yep, never enough. Now sure I could get by with one or two knives, but I like variety. Sure I carry some more than others, but I like changing it up. As long as they come up with new designs I don't see stopping. Granted, I don't know if I'll ever be at the point where I'm spending thousands on a knife because while it is man jewelry to a certain extent, it is still a tool. I don't think clutter is really that much of an issue with knives. Sure if you have literally hundreds it starts to add up, but even a decent sized collection doesn't take up a lot of space. Unless you're spending so much money that you can't pay or bills or your wife is going to beat your ass, just give in to the addiction or at least become a "functioning addict."

I had "enough" knives after about 25 or so::
- 8 dinner knives (assuming I had 7 friends to have over for dinner :D)
- 8 steak knives for the dinner table (assuming I ever had 7 friends at one time that I liked enough to buy steak for :D)
- 4 or 5 different sized "kitchen knives" - butcher, bread, paring, butter, etc
- a couple of machetes for farm work
- a Buck 110
- a Kabar 1232

After that, it became a matter knives that I wanted. Turns out I wanted a bunch. :D

Enough knives? No such thing. Enough money? Now that can be an issue.

I usually wait until I get to about 200 in the collection, and then I sell a bunch to fund more knives. That way I get to own and experience a lot more blades than I otherwise would by keeping everything that I purchased. It works for me...

Have a T Shirt that states if you know how many Guns you have; You don't have enough.

Same thing with knives; IMHO.:)

Actual usage I never needed more than 2.. A machete on the trail and a cheapo $10 EDC that's been in use for 20 years.
If I count the kitchen... my wife has a 1-Knife-Do-It-All that I keep razor sharp all the time... again that's +/- 20 yrs or so

But if it comes to a hobby/ collection standpoint-- I think the formula X+1 where X is the current no. of knifes you have collected would apply.
You will think from time to time "its enough" but soon -- another will edge their way in...

I think the answer is different for every person, and for a lot of people, the answer will change over time.

Some discover a set of knives that fit their needs, and stop there.

Some have their "core EDC" knives, but continue to collect, catch and release, or some combination thereof.

Some are never satisfied, and continue to buy and sell (or outright hoard) knives all through their lives.

Whiskey or Bourbon? Blonde, brunette, or redhead? Paper or plastic? The question of "which knife?" ranks with any of the other great philosophical questions of our time.

Well, I don't know how many knives I have but I have a pretty good idea with firearms. With knives, I honestly don't know how many I have and really don't care to inventory. I get in a mood and I dig out a bunch of older knives I purchased and handle them for a day or two. Then I dump them (carefully) back in their storage spot (Rubbermaid tub in my case.) and wait until the next time I feel like looking at stuff I don't use. Knife choices seem to time stamp both your knowledge, experience and most importantly, your interests. It's fun. That's why I don't sell any. I occasionally will give one away, but not often.
