how do you pronounce some of these knife names?

As a fluent French speaker (1 of the 3 official languages in Belgium, others are Dutch and German) I'm afraid you guys are all slightly off the mark on Laguiole. It's Lah-Gwee-Ol the o in Ol being pronounced as the O in forrest.

My wife and I are both French-Canadians and we argue about that one... I always pronounced it like WillyD, but my wife insists that the real pronunciation is like Keith says, "La-yolle"... So I guess I really don't know!

The one I have always wondered about was Livesay.

How does one pronounce Livesay, as in Newt?

I seem to remember an old thread where it was said to be pronounced like "Liv-AH-see". Dunno if it's true or my decrepit memory is failing me.

Seriously, this is the best thread in a long time-I speak spanish, but Bussy? I always said Buce.-Joe

I always saide Buce too. There was a thread in the Busse forum and it was confirmed that it is pronounced Bus-see

I guess there are enough regional differences in francophone countries to justify the possibility that there are two correct ways to pronounce it.

As far as Heckler & Koch is concerned, Ed is correct. It would be impossible to explain the phonetics of the word "Koch" with a standard keyboard to an American. Same with Böker.
Call me up and I'll tell ya how to pronounce it. ;)

By the way, Koch = cook.

HK reps pronounce Koch as KO, not Cook, here in the US. Wonder why the reps pronounce it differently than their homeland.

That's right Keith it's not a real "G" sound but it's close enough I have no idea if this sound exists in any other language or how to write it down it's like in Garçon or Gare mabe more like KGW it's really hard to describe.

I pronounce Fallkniven this way: Fall as in tall and kniven with a long I. But what the hell do I know.
