How do you store your knives?

I didn't see it mentioned here so I will add a note of caution. For long term storage do not store your knife in a leather sheath. The acids and moisture in the leather will eventually rust the blade, even stainless.

Also on that note, always wipe off a blade before putting it into the sheath. Whatever is one the blade will remain in the sheath and then be pressed against the blade.
 
I remember when I was hunting this year my dads friend had his stored in a leather sheath, and I pulled it out and told him it was rusted. He didn't believe me because it was "stainless" ... just imagine the look on his face when he saw that blade..
 
I made up a custom cabinet using recycled timber in the style of a dropleaf desk - in retrospect I should have just bought a couple of mechanics locking-tray tool cabinets - would have been cheaper and a lot less grief. Knife cabinet does look rather nice in the lounge room though. Sorry - I can't post pics
