How do you store your knives?

I don't have a huge collection, but the knives that I have are fairly nice. None of them are collectors knives, they have all been carried or used at some point. Up until now there have all been sitting on a shelf in my closet. This has worked out fine so far. Recently though I have been thinking of ways to store them so they aren't just sitting out in the open and are more protected.

I was thinking a pelican box with the foam insert that you can cut to size would be great. I would be concerned though about the foam holding in any moisture and causing the knives to rust. I know it isn't a good idea to store firearms in a foam case. I would imagine that knives are no different.

So how do you guys store your knives when they aren't being used? Anyone have any experience using a pelican box for knife storage?

I put them in my pocket.
Nice :)
I use an old China cabinet. Works great. Mostly glass, so pretty much a 180 view of them all with a light. Kind or a PITA to get them in and out too. Of course, i have to be OCD and not let any of them touch......

Any of my knives that I am not using or carrying just stay in the safe . I take out what I want when I want it , otherwise they are locked away . I have one of those Tuf-Cloth cleaning clothes that both clean and protect against rust or corrosion .

Yup, in this. A Rubber Maid container, in my basement. No issues with rust. Oil is your friend.

I bring up the rust issue because I live in Oregon. It rains here. A lot. Pretty high humidity.

Oil is your friend. You are correct there.

I use three of these (Sterilite Mini 5 drawer organizer) for my folders, I bought them at Wally world for about $8 a piece, and got a roll of that tacky foam stuff that you line silverware or tool drawers with to stop stuff from sliding around, you can fit 3-4 Militaries or AFCK's per drawer, they stack too, so when you need more room just add another one. I'm currently in Utah (very dry) but planning on moving back to Oregon soon, I plan on just throwing one or two of those silica gel packet things that come in shoes in any of the drawers that have CPM-M4 or D2 blades in them.

Mid size plastic tool box works great for me. Easy to organize compartments, boxes in the bottom.

I got a kick out of EternalGamePlayer's picture of his tool-chest. The further I scrolled down, the crazier it got. Gosh, he has a lot of nice knives. Spyderco seems to be big on his list, along with everyone else. This is what I call a serious collector. Impressive. Nice!

I like your idea. The knives are stored but not totally in cased in foam. The whole humidity thing here has me a little concerned. I have a golden rod and one of those rechargeable dehumidifiers in my safe. I have to recharge the dehumidifier every month and a half or so. I haven't seen any rust on my firearms yet.

I use a plastic one piece Sterilite storage unit. It is sitting next to me right now. Mine is skinnier, has three drawers, and HAS WHEELS (manditory, lol) so I can push it to where I am at, and then back to the bedroom when I am done. It is 25" high, 8" wide, 13" deep: purchased at Wally World, I think. I built 2 little wooden shelves (1x1s) with legs that I placed in the upper two drawers so I can store at two separate levels in one drawer. The container is lined with thin packing foam sheets and the shelves have cardboard and foam sheets. I have big users immediately accessable, on the top shelf in one drawer and little users on top in the second drawer. I store fixed blades out their sheaths below the shelves. The third drawer is used for safe queens and non-users in boxes and empty boxes. The bottom needs to have the most weight so it does not tip over when opening shelves. Works perfectly! I store 30-40 in the one unit! Because it is skinny and has wheels I can squeeze it into many good hiding places around the house. It looks like it belongs in the kitchen. Maybe behind the trash can in the pantry?;)

I have some libarary card cabinets. I lined the bottom of the drawers with wood and then acid free paper.
