How do you think the new Gso6 will compare to the 5.1?

I really wanted and have been unable to grab a 5.1 so far. But now i'm thinking I should just just pre-order a 6. I am so torn. All hype seems to be about the 5.1 out of all Gsos though. Are choils essential at that size? I don't think so. Can they be handy? Sure...
I'm about to flip a coin and decide between the two that way, ahhhh steer me in one way someone!

Ok, let me know if this helps at all..........

Preorder a 6 and lock in exactly what you want and guarantee you'll have it............ at some point in the future.... mandatory wait.

Save the precious funds and keep trying for a 5.1 on Mondays.... likely to get it before the 6 would be delivered but you have to race each Monday until you score.

Personally, I've resisted all temptation to try for a 5.1 since Monday sales started because my preference is anti-choil. Given the choice, I'd choose the 6 every time.

To summarize, I'd order through 6 now, kick back and relax and what for that baby to arrive at your door. If you really want to have a GSO before summer is over then keep trying for a 5.1.

Secret 3rd option, pay the higher price on the secondary market for the instant gratification.

That does help!
3rd option i'm canning, as i personally don't care for the secondary market because a.) For higher(ish) end knives i like getting straight from the dealer/maker just because I rather my money go straight to those who deserve it & have put in effort to construct their products (each to their own - just something i am funny with).
b.) It annoys me that people buy these knives just to mark up the prices (proper dealers this doesnt apply too), when other people who miss out actually want them to have and use them.
Anyway thats just me.

In saying that choil or no choil i am not fussed with either way. The 5.1 i like its perfect balance and the 6 i like the extra little blade length.

There is also the rumor that anything after the 4.1 is recieving nate's HT on which makes the 6 slightly more tempting!

I am thinking i could just order a 6, kick back and wait as you said :D

I'm happy that I could get a 5.1, I still plan on picking up a 6 though. If I hadn't already gotten the 5.1 I think I'd just preorder the 6.

Choil or no choil.
I think the 5.1 is a great size & has excellent balance,but I've never held a 6.

I like choils myself and have the 5.1 and am really thinking of getting a 7/7. But if you don't like them or think it necessary then the 6 was made for you!

Don't let Guy's effort to please the non-choil crowd go to waste! :)

Sold a Swatmandu and then pre-ordered a GSO 6 but was able to snag a GSO 5.1 on a Monday sale.
The Swatmandu had a choil but it didn't make a difference to me so I opted for a choiless GSO 6.

Have the 5.1 until I get the 6, unless I can get a Terrio knife in Elmax in a couple weeks, then I may let the 5.1 go knowing I have the 6 coming.

All this figuring is making my head hurt.

I totally agree with you! For some people the higher price justifies not having to wait, so I thought I'd mention it.

American, good point!!! The 6 was made for weirdos like me :D

I have an old spec 5.1 and I love it. My 7/7 will be here soon. I never was big on choils, but man Guy knocks it out of the park!

I was foolish to sell my old spec gso 6
Certainly one if the best knives I have ever owned
Now that I have the funds I pre ordered a new 6 and will never sell it !

I am thinking of biting the bullet and settling on a 6. My most desired of them all is the 7/7, which i regret not pre-ordering :(

I'm curious about the new heat treat for 3V (Nate's?). I'm apparently not very good at using the forum search. From what I've gathered, the new heat will make new SURVIVE! Knives so tough that they can cut through old SURVIVE! Knives like butter.

Okay, seriously. How much of a difference is the new heat treat really going to make? Should I be considering ordering the GSO 6 over a 5.1 just to get the new heat treat?

Here's a thread with one of Nathan's videos near the top. I think there's links or other videos in there also that demonstrate/describe it further
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-the-Elite-and-What-it-Means-for-the-Consumer

I'm pretty far from understanding it all, but it appears his new HT changes the structure of the steel material that holds the carbides, making that stronger, which translates into increased toughness and (i think) little to no loss in wear resistance (vs standard 3V).

I'm pretty sure i'm not saying that right... so someone who's looked at his explanations feel free to chime in.

Xtian, sorry to hear you missed the 7/7. Order that 6!

The new knives cutting through the old. Ha!
Find the "collaboration of the elite" thread. there is a lot of good information and some links there. Honestly for my backyard warrior purposes, my old gen 3.5 and 5 are completely sufficient. With that said I do have a desire to experience and own the latest and greatest!

The new HT will most likely be tougher but it's not clear if wear resistance in normal situations (wood) will be better
It probably won't be as stain resistant but that remains to be seen

That's what I did, I ordered a 6 and sat back to relax...

Then ordered a 3.5, a 4.7 and a 12. Then bought and sold 2 old spec 5s and a now have another old spec 6. Just sitting back and relaxing.

Thanks everyone for the input. Can someone clear this up - when will Nate's HT start on the knives? If that is actually a fact and not just a rumor.

The 4.1 blades will be first in production with the new heat treat. Each model after that should have the same heat treat for 3v.

What is interesting to note is that Nate has two HT protocols
One for smaller knives and one for his new light chopper.
Will the light chopper protocol be used on bigger blades like the 7/7 etc ?
