How do you wear a belt knife ?

I find sash carry very convenient. Sheath can be shifted to a comfortable position for walking, riding, sitting, driving etc and can be easily removed and put back on inside the belt.

Cord hold ensures that you dont draw the knife with the sheath still on.

A very comfortable means of carry.

That's how I've currently got my Mora.

Like the sash idea, do you have a pic of the knife? A Bark River Rogue?

Sash carry is very comfortable.

Though its not a Rogue, that was actually a pretty good call from just seeing a knife in a sheath.

Its similar to the Rogue as its also a Natchez Bowie (as called by some). I looked at the BRK Rogue before deciding on the blank.

But its just a cheapo blank and handle slabs from Jantz which I used as a testbed for deciding whether or not I liked guardless coffin handled knives. Turns out I did. A LOT. Ive beaten the snot out of the knife since then. It punched way above its weight (and price).

Here a thread on it from when the handle slabs was mounted:

Pics as requested - also pics of sheath and static line:

In regards to sash carry - a qoute form the linked to thread:
"As for the sheath, I want to thank JParanee for drawing my attention to sash carry, which I now know is one of Joes preferred carry methods. Ive certainly become a big fan after making yet another test 'vehicle' - a quick and dirty hurriedly made sheath for the carrying of the coffin handle knife sash style. I made it to look old and abused. Please keep that in mind. I can make prettier sheaths though not quite up to Ebbtides standard. This was only to test the knife and intended to be made fast and to discard, did I not like the carry mode. How ever, Im a believer and kept the sheath, as it works fine. In time, Ill make another for the Bowie knife.

Its carried IWB and with a static line, which ensures, that the sheath releases the knife. An excellent and very comfortable mode of carry IMO."

I prefer to use a dangler. I can't stand having a knife handle against my ribs. I don't like anything that restricts my movements. It's the same reason that I don't typically carry larger fixed blades.

I tend to carry my belt knives on the belt in the standard provided sheath, tip down. It's worked out for me so far.

1940s US army surplus anorak. And the knife is a 1950s Mora. I like old stuff

I've carried a particular folder for over two yrs. Recently, I purchased a Bradford Guardian3 fixed blade, crossdraw, horizontal belt sheath carry that fits all of my casual needs. It hides very nicely under an open t-shirt here in Florida, and I forget that I have it until I need it.
I still carry my folding knife, but it seldom gets used.

Don't usually worry about concealment when carrying a fixed blade, and I much prefer the comfort of a dangler or drop-loop sheath and/or holster. These make it much more comfortable (and accessible) when riding in a pick-up, on an ATV or tractor.

That's cool, I don't wear anything that old but my field jacket, leather gloves, and trench coat were issued to my dad in basic training back in '79 and I have an almost brand new camo field jacket he was issued later on that I currently wear as the older one is on its last legs.

Man, that makes me feel old. I enlisted in '76 and got out in 2002.

If your trench coat is the older green wool model, then you have a great coat. It was replaced by a black one designed by London Fog. Also a good coat but I personally feel that the green one is a little warmer.

Guess I should add something about how I belt carry. If I carry a folder on my belt, a black nylon horizontal sheath is used, strong side. Fixed blade is vertical carry on my weak side.

Mine's the black model, and I'm happy with it because it's very comfortable and definitely warm enough for Northern California winters.
BTW I'm getting some good carry ideas from this thread, and am now thinking about ways to give my Mora a horizontal carry option.

Got lucky. It was unissued brand new. Had it for a couple years now. It's a heavy cotton or canvas material. Treated it w Greenland wax. Favourite winter coat. Easy to adjust to temps by what's under. Either a wool sweater or down hoodie. Came w brand new un used wool mitts tucked into the front pockets probably like they were issued.

That's definitely a lucky find. My gloves still had the original tags on them because my dad never had to wear them, but man I wish I could say the same about my field jacket.

That thing looks like the perfect traditionalists bush coat.

I carry small fixed blades mostly. But often on pack trips I carry a large camp knife or hunter. My preferred method of carry then is small of the back (SOB).

It works great, comfortable and is out of the way. Also out of the way if ya carry a pistol. Particularly handy if you're leading some pack horses or mules. Then your lead rope is not getting tangled all the time.

Sir, you are living the life!

The only fixed blade I carry a lot is a bk14 in a home made kydex with a pull dot loop. It carries horizontal in the front and I love the way it rides. I can move any way I want and it's never in the way but it is quick and easy to draw and re-sheath. A large knife wouldn't work there but I can't imagine a better carry method for a small knife.

Edit: with the pull dot loop it's also easy to put on and off. I can carry either side of the belt buckle.

My fixed blades are generally in dangler sheaths.

I'm in/out of vehicles and up/down tractors, ladders, hay lofts, etc most of the day. Danglers allow me to position the sheath in comfortable positions easily, usually without even noticing that I'm adjusting them.

I've been EDCing fixed blades for so long that I hardly even notice they are there, whether they are 5"BL/9.5" OAL legal Texas public carry fixed blades or larger blades, e.g., Kabar 1217, BK7/9/20.

I "notice" my largest blades more, but that's because with brush-whacking machetes and khukris hang up on "stuff" more. The other fixed blades are "just there" all the time.

I actually notice the absence of my fixed blades when I have to go bladeless more than when I'm wearing them.

I carry my Mora on the right back, sheath goes half way into the back right pocket and gets covered, concealing the blade, while the upper half of the sheath and handle are left under the shirt/jacket easily accessible but unnoticeable to the people around.

No scares, no problems, no explaining to do. Grab, use, put back.
