Third, KLOs -- Kukri Like Objects -- such as the Cold Steel, Ontario and S&W ones are bent machetes and do not give the advantages of a real kukri. You're better off with a latin-style machete, golok, or cane knife if you want what amounts to a sharpened piece of sheet metal. Any of those three will generally cost less and perform better than the KLO...
A dissenting vote indeed!
I heartily disagree, in that I think the blades unfairly dubbed KLO's by the fans of HI and their traditional Khukris are for the money the best choppers out there. I own sevral central and South American made machetes as well as some South African ones, I I'd put my CS and Ontario Kukris (& no not the stupid $20 version!) over them ANY day of the week for serious chopping. To call these tools machetes seems ignorant. It's simple Physics! Not to mention I convex all my blades and that I own which I feel increases the chopping power considerably.
Maybe I misunderstood you, but this is stuff I normally hear from people putting crap on the "KLO's" saying that they lack the near magical properties of a "real" Khukri. IMHO it smacks of elitism and has no basis in reality.
But maybe I'm wrong , and if so my humblest apologies.
