How does everyone cut out their blanks?

Hammer or portaband. If you are thinking twice about the portaband you should definitely go for it.

I have a good high tension hacksaw but I still found cutting .187 thick 1084 to be enough of a challenge I think I'm doing something wrong. I have the thick stock for a hand plane blade project and have a lot left over crying out to be made into knives (or whatever approximation to a knife I can manage ).
What blade type should I use? Where do you get them?

My HF 1x30 and angle grinder just arrived today, but I'd prefer to hacksaw over angle grind if it will work.

Hope this isn't hijacking... Seems to be same topic.
Thanks
