How does one handle the following situation?

A month or so ago I traded with someone on the trading forum. I will leave the details of the trade off this post (for now) as I'd like to protect the identity of the party involved.

We traded two of my knives for two of his.

Here is what I can prove from email records:
  • He claimed that one of his knives was in LNIB condition and the other as having a broken (and replaced blade)
  • He was happy with the trade (as was I)
  • We left positive feedback for one another at the completion of the trade

Since I couldn't find a use for either of the knives which I'd gotten. I posted them up for trade/sale.

Without ever contacting me first, he jumped on my thread and claimed that the knife which he previously labeled as "LNIB" was used extensively. Secondly, he posted up that the second of the knives he traded me had a broken tip (rather then chipped as I described it). The blade had been replaced by Benchmade so I didn't view the difference between "chipped" and "broken" to be germane; its unusable and BM replaced it.

Then he went ahead and claimed that I was spreading "misinformation".

A couple of things here:
  • This is obviously messing with my sale thread.
  • He's claiming that I am misrepresenting something; my representation of the condition came from his email and my visual inspection of the knives.
  • How do I handle the situation? Do I make a big stink with the Mods?

Wanted to get opinions from GB&U before proceeding.

ADDENDUM: Now he's claiming that it is LNIB and is bragging that this "cost" me a transaction. All of this via email. Should post up the email conversation as well?

report the post...the triangle icon with the exclamation point in the lower corner of each post...it wasn't hard to figure out who you were talking about and that person should have STFU...we have PM and visitor messages for a reason...

Thanks Pete. I've flagged the post and PMed the mods separately. What are my options here? Do I ask for his feedback to be revoked? Does BF have a double yellow flag like other forums that I am on?

Not sure if this matters but seems to me that he is taking issue with the amount that I was looking to sell his knife for. It seems to me that the amount I list a knife for is my business.
 
If you feel the feedback you left should be changed, go to his feedback page and find the Report Bad Rating icon, and tell your story so Spark can decide.

I notice you gave him a bad rating for this current dispute. That's wrong. You can't rate him on a deal he didn't participate in. That's the wrong way to go about it.

Report a Bad Rating on that, too, and have Spark delete it.
 
you can't say you disagree with the condition of the knife as i traded it to you as LNIB, you left positive feedback stating as much, and even turned around and attempted to sell the knife as NEW IN BOX, which is where this dispute began. i simply wanted to correct the misinformation, not leave marks on either of our feedback scores.

go ahead and post the emails, i clearly stated early in our conversation that the knife had been carried, it was never sharpened and in great condition but had lost its pocket time to my sebenza.

if you really want to make a big deal of it, we can. i just wanted to state that the knife shouldn't be represented as NIB when i'd traded it to you as LNIB, nor that the 940 had chipped when i'd clearly expressed to you i'd broken the tip off entirely and it had since been replaced.

I never said I disagree, you contradicted yourself and interrupted a sales thread. That is why you got spanked. You could have "corrected" any perceived misinformation by simply emailing me, PM, or VM. Instead you chose to publicly call me out and open this can of worms.

Sure thing, I have plenty of emails that I can point to where you've gone back and forth on this.

As far as the 940 is concerned, we agree. The tip was broken off. Explain how this is remotely relevant given BM has replaced it...

You've proven yourself nothing more then a troll. If you continue in this vein I am sure the Mods will take stronger action. Good day.

I was referring to a thinly veiled threat he sent via email. Something along the lines of "I cost you two transactions now...think about who stands the most to lose here"
 
I was already in gear from handling ooitzoo's thread when I got called into yours! Just ran through the same routine ...

Now I've had enough for the night! :)
 
i hate to say it , but if you inspected the knives upon receiving and gave good feedback , you might have to eat that one. i had to do the same thing on an 1100$ custom strider, just resell at a loss. we all make mistakes and sometimes we have to own it and fix it ourselves at a loss, again sorry for you dilemma i hope it works out.

Funny thing here is that I agreed until this genius decided to publicly contradict himself without ever contacting me first. Gotta love the logic of some people.
 
publicly contradict myself... right. first thing i told you via email was that it was carried, that it'd lost its pocket time to the sebenza. yet i contradict myself on your fs thread [in the wrong there, already corrected] by saying it wasn't NEW IN BOX like you were claiming, that i'd carried it. seems consistent to me, but i guess i didn't take my meds this morning huh.

only "genius" thing i did was not toss a fit over the transaction, but the knives are already resold. i just didn't care to see knives i'd traded to him being represented as being in better condition than how i traded them to him, and for far greater values than we agreed upon in our conversations.

i was gonna let it go but i'm not feeling this whole continuation of slander on my part. granted i took the wrong action by posting in your fs thread, that doesn't mean my words were unwarranted.
 
and it cost you a transaction in that my friend will no longer be doing business with you. ya know, spyderco khurkri for lone wolf? another one? yea... thats what i meant by that part

Yes, it was fixed BY THE MOD.

Again, since this doesn't seem to sink in; carried and used is NOT THE SAME AS LNIB. It's one or the other; you've gone back and forth four times now; are we trying for a fifth...? How much I decide to list my knives for is, again (for the fourth time), none of your concern. I have no interest in explaining my reasoning nor seeking your permission. Get it? My knives = my prerogative.

This is simply untrue; your email stated as much. Its the Khukuri guy PLUS the 940 guy. Again, need I quote your emails here? Your little tiff cost me actual business.

In conclusion, take your meds and seek professional help. You're obviously disturbed and need some serious heavy duty counseling.

and yet you agreed it was in LNIB condition when you accepted the knife, and even tried to sell it as NEW IN BOX. which is what started this whole thing! you're right, your knives, your prerogative, but i don't appreciate being taken advantage of by a crook. you'd think someone who is trading would say hey, i plan on selling this for 3x what i'm telling him its worth, but thats the least of the issues here.

i told you it was LNIB despite having been carried, which i told you in advance. LIKE NEW. which you agreed it was. you in turn decided to post it as NEW IN BOX, which it wasn't, so i said something. but i'm off my rocker? just because you can use the edit feature after i called you on it doesn't make you right. you're the one who thinks Like new and NEW are interchangeable terms and yes there's an email to confirm that that i'd be happy to provide.

so be warned, your so called new in box knife is probably only like new, as evidenced by the previously sharpened and scratched and uncentered knives i got from him. slander goes both ways
