How Good Are Chisel Grind Blades for Folders?

I can't raise a burr on the CRKTs, though I can on V-grinds. In short, I can't seem to find the right angle. Using a Sharpmaker w/a 20° angle, I can't get an edge.

I ended up propping up one side of my SM about 4" to get the right angle for a Chisel Ground Dwyer Custom I sharpened. It wasn't a pretty setup but it worked. YMMV.

confederate, a sharpmaker is a great system for most stuff but imho its not the right tool for CG's.

the angle is not correct for one. sure, ya can hold it an an odd angle but for me thats harder than a std benchstone, if ya can hold an odd angle on a sharpmaker why not just hold the right angle on a benchstone?? imho it makes sharpening CG's if anything MORE difficult.

go to the EKI sight, read the info, get a std $10 norton india stone, some cardboard or a steel and get down.

the EKI tutorial is the best i have seen and i have seen a few, if ya follow the instructions it will get work, believe me.

its not hard really, all it takes is practice.

I'm pretty ticked off that CRKT's own sharpening kit won't sharpen its knives. I'm also ticked that CRKT won't respond to e-mails asking them about the problem. As I stated earlier, I've read a number of similar complaints by others. All it would take is another guide and an extra paragraph in the instructions.

Thanks again for all the info!

chisel grinds belong on chisels. i won't buy a knife with a chisel grind, they just don't do it for me. it the only reason why i haven't picked up an emerson yet.

I like Yanagiba - very sharp, excellent slicer, it just fall into cucumber or tomato without any effort from hand - it actually very hard to call this chisel grind. But for EDC or pocket knife I see no reason to have this. Especially on wrong side.

Thanks, Vassili.

Would it be safe to assume chisel grind which is predominantly used for self defence knives because it aids in creating a cavity wound and to some degree ensures a broadening slash:confused:
