How good is the quality of DPX folding knives?

I just checked out the Hest/F and for a 2.9" blade and in general wasn't impressed for the $375 price tag. Maybe for $200-230ish

First time poster, here. I had one five years ago that developed lock rock but the company took care of that quickly and pleasantly. After I got it back I never had an another issue. I carried it for about a year before i eventually flipped it when something else came along and got my attention. I will say that of all the knives I've owned and flipped over the years, the hest is the only one I ever regretted or missed. So I ordered a new one. Have they made any notable changes to the design in the last few years?

I recommended the HEFT not the HEST. The HEFT is a fixed blade.

It is not for everyone that is for sure. The price tag though is spot on when you consider the build, the quality and materials used. I have taken a good number of these apart and would put it in a category with other knives in the $350-$450 price range without hesitation.

Id never own anything associated with that idiot RYP.

Generic knives with moronic looking logo, as others have said.

The more fanatic part of the fanbase are sad basement keyboard ninjas buying into the would-be operator lies. Not all fans of course - but they are there, Mantis-style.

RYP once PMed people on a forum and threathened to sue, if posts about him was not taken down.

He was laughed at and nothing of course came of it.

A sad sack.

'Black Flag Cafe' - farce.

Id of course never go to a BF dedicated DPX forum and take a dump ... but then of course RYP threw a spectacular tantrum here complete with gnashing teeth and was banned from here/left in a huff with panties in a bunch a long time ago.

Its all easily researched.

I have no experience with the brand, but I've had a look. At that price range I feel I have enough options that I'm gonna pick something that doesn't have a little skeleton dude wearing a hat on it.

This turned in to a dumping ground about RYP. I get it. I have been around here a long time and remember what all happened. He would not be the first maker to do something stupid on here, or in other places. I kind of thought over time that some would forgive and forget, but that seems dependent on whose name is on the knife.

No matter what you think of the guy, I will give him some credit in growing his brand and working his butt off to have a folding knife made in the USA. He got it done when everyone told him he would never be able to do it. Not only did he keep after it for many years, but finally after landing with Southern Grind on the full ti HEST Urban, he knocked it out of the park. For those that hate the DPX Skull Hat Logo, it is no where on this knife.

Like I said before, for those that just do not like the guy, I get it 100%. With that said, the point of this thread was whether or not DPX folding knives were any good? My answer to that question when it comes to the new full ti HEST urban, is yes, they are very good!

Regardless of the guy, this knife albeit a lil thick has never let me down. It fit the parameters I was after, purchased it; its seen plenty of carry time and use.

When was I banned from here?

Let me know if you would like to meet or talk to some of the people that own and use our knives... or even the folks that wear our logo. We are celebrating our tenth anniversary with a number of great designs. Or you can call me and show me where the Mr DP hurt you. :))

Glad to hear the knives are good nowadays. You're probably right, it's time we get over it.

I mean, there'd be nobody left to buy from if we stopped buying from all the makers who spazzed out after putting out products with issues, to the point that they were flaming and actually doxing one of their customers while throwing a tantrum here . . .

I bought a new DPX HEFT fixed blade recently and really like it. Now I'm considering one of their folders, preferably in Sleipner since I have never owned a knife in that steel, I have read good things though.
Anyway, the folders look cool, but the titanium lock seems to be a weak point. I have read compaints about lock stick, and it being prone to damage if put under too much pressure. Also, on the D2 models, I read that the lock can wear down faster than normal. Keep in mind that I have only held one DPX folder but have no experience using them. For those of you that know about them, please share your experience. Would you recommend them?

Here's the original question. Address it, only.

I picked up one a few years ago. It had a D2 blade, black g10 scale. It was very hard to open unless the pivot was loosened to the point of side to side play. Had some significant lock stick. But it was a tank of a knife and when the roto lock was used, it felt like a fixed blade. Overall a good folder, looked great but the lockstick and very stiff detent killed it for me. Good luck on the hunt!

Don’t be a hater just go with it.

Its all water under the bridge.

The Lionsteel Made DPX are/were top notch. Fit and finish were great and problems were very rare. The G10 Hest Urbans were made by Florian and were decent but being honest I think the quality coming from Lionsteel was a little better. The newest Full Ti DPX Hest Urban is made by Southern Grind out of Atlanta and they are top notch. I think it is the best fit/finish overall quality DPX folder made to date.

Thanks did not know that. Southern Grind makes some nice stuff!

I have a HEST triple black that is made by Lionsteel. The FF is pretty good. I don't like how thick the blade steel is and I do not like that one side is g10. It seems to flex a bit. I have some lock rock but it locks up pretty well but not as good as my GB1.
