How I display my first HI (photo links included)...

I like it, no lie. I come from a family of artists and I notice strange things. The spirals play off the anticipated movement of the khuks. It's a good thing.

I'm honored that you feel the frame went so well with my project :)

I hope you understand my laughter, Munk.
I just find it funny that it was more about it's bargain basement price that the decision was made to purchase the frame in the first place. I will admit though, even though the price was low, I would not have purchased it if it had not caught my fancy ;)

Thanks again, buddy :)

Artists, Huh. If you don't mind my asking, what artistry are they involved in?

One little thing to add.....Jimmy maybe you shall change the color of the display box ? Dun match your interior too well. :)

Astro, I was only semi joking when I said that your statement may affect me.

I'm always asking my kids and wife for their honest opinions after I finish a project. This project was no different. They have learned to be honest about it, don't sugarcoat things. Most times they like my end results, sometimes they don't. Even when they don't care for something about any given project, it does not mean I will alter it to please them, but I definitely take their suggestions/opinions under consideration.

So when you said that the display's exterior color did not match it's suroundings, I took another real good look at it and found that you were correct in your observations.

The interior matched fine, the exterior was just too white. Was I going to paint it?................ No, more than I wanted to do to it. But, I wondered how I could tone down the exterior's color without actually altering the exterior's color. Quite a few ideas came to mind, but the one that I went with was to place some solid brass corner accents and a solid brass knob to the display's lid.

Okay, the display's exterior is still "very" white, but I think that the brass accents may have done a small part in helping to tone it all down a bit.

Anyhow, I don't believe that I would further add or alter anything on it, but would still appreciate your opinion of it now.

As I tell the wife and kids.............. be honest with me :)

looks great to me, why have it blend in & disappear? if you want to do that paint it in camouflage colors & hide it in the woods.

.........otherwise, the secret of a good project is: when it's done, stop.

Yeah, I know that one can sometimes overkill. That's why even though I may get some negative feedback from a person that I've asked to give their opinion, it does not mean that I will act on it.

I ask for another's opinion in the same way that one may ask another to proof read something. You may have proof read your own work ten times over, and think it's just about perfect. Then, you may hand it to another to proof read, and they notice something that you had not. He or she may point it out to you, but you may still feel it better off if left the way it already is, or you may even agree that he or she is correct, and then change it.

In other words, though I don't rely on outside opinions, I do consider them ;)

And thanks for your comment :)

Hehe Jimmy I was just trying to pull your leg a little. ;) :p

Tell you the truth I like your original one...with the material at hand and the careful fittings. I gave it 80 percent. With the brass fittings it does look a lot nicer. An 87 percent ! :)

kekeke, I pulled ya left at first and I may try to pull ya right one too. :D

Personally I don't like white for any kind of knife or gun displays, but then I wouldn't care for most colors either.
My favorite would be a wood finish whether dark or light. But that's why there are literally millions of colors, not everyone has the same taste in decorating.

Astro,

LOL!............... Thanks buddy :)

At least my alteration did not cost me much money at all.
I paid about $3.50 at Loews Home improvement for the solid brass corner accents. The knob, well, that was a bargain and then some :)

We have three big home improvement stores based in our area, they being Home Depot, Loews, and Chase Pitkins. Loews and Home Depot were doing just fine, but Chase Pitkins must have not been doing so well. They recently started liquidating their inventories, since they were going out of business.
While checking their liquidation sale out, I noticed a big ole sign that read "fill this bag up for only $5" over the knob/backplate/hinge hardware section. I quickly went over to the solid brass section and filled up "two" of these plastic bags (about 3" x 10") with this quality hardware. Most of this stuff was regularly priced at anywhere from 3 to 6 dollars, with the average being around $4.50 per piece. With me placing 97 assorted pieces into these two bags (stuffed like pigs), I was able to get over $436 worth of hardware for a total of only $10 plus tax ;)

$10 divided by 97 pieces means I only spent about 10 cents for each piece of hardware.

So I roughly only added about $3.60 cost to my display box :)

I love a bargain,......... who says that good stuff has always got to cost you a lot ;)

I love brass....I'd bet next ya gonna make a brass armor outta all those to complement your helmet. :D

Thanks ferguson :)

Astro, I kinda feel like that guy in that old P-Touch TV commercial.
In that commercial the guy can't stop labling everything with his P-Touch machine. Me, with 90+ solid brass accent pieces, I feel like placing them everywhere!
I MUST REFRAIN FROM DOING SO!............. LOL! :)

It's definitely a lifetime supply ;)
