How Important Are Liners in a Folding Knife?

Liners are definitely not needed if the G10 or other material construction is done properly. Just look at the Cold Steel lineup, some of the toughest knives money can buy and most are linerless. You won't see any Recon 1's breaking due to a lack of liners any time soon. I've used one of my Recons for everything and anything a knife should not be used for, after nearly a decade it's still as tight and solid as the day i bought it.

When they first came put with the G10 Espada , they didn't completely trust just G10 and included a steel liner inlayed into the area of the lock bar . Later models like the Holdout , Talwar etc. are mostly just solid G10 slabs . I'm unaware of any failures .
