How impressed I am with the Vallotton Sub-Hilt

I'd like to check out the Lil' Sub-Hilt too. I prefer larger knives most of the time. But once in a while I'd like a smaller knife depending on what I'm doing and wearing.
Thanks to this thread, I'm now a proud owner of a new Vallotton sub-hilt!

I was out at the Factory Outlet and got to handle it, and that was all it took. I also messed with the smaller version and I think if you like the big one, you'll like the little one. I know it made my list, haha. I received very excellent and attentive service while shopping, and regret not getting the names of the associates who helped me. I visited on Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning and very much appreciate being tolerated as I regaled them with many boring stories.

My new Sub-Hilt had some pretty wicked lock stick at first, but has since broken in very well and has no stick at all. As others have said, the fit and finish on these is just stunning. So thanks Wolverine, this is a model I almost certainly would have overlooked without this thread.

Excellent decision. The Vallotton is so finely made , it competes with knives twice it's price.

The Vallotton is my first and only Spyderco, and I was totally blown away by everything about it. I will likely pick up a second one so I can keep the other one pristine. I’d like to see this with some custom carbon fiber scales.

Ok. You knucke heads have almost talked me into one! I’ve always loved the lines of the knife. I’m still having trouble getting over the thicknesses and especially the weight though.

My recently acquired Hungarian (which I love) is making my resistance weak. Polished G-10 and bolsters....yummy. Such a quality piece.

In my collection, I don’t see the Sub-Hilt being an EDC knife. It would be more of a collection piece/play thing...ain’t nothing wrong with that IMO.

The want is escalating!

The thing that always kept me away from the sub hilt is the visible liner lock where the index finger groove is in the scales... not sure why.

For sure i'm on the same page with Wolverine 666 about the Valloton!2 years ago i received one from my friend and i can honestly say this knife is on a par if not better assembled than most of the "customs"!good you stated this thread Wolverine, for sure this Valloton deserve's a lot of praise!

I totally get that. Just have to handle one to see why it actually works so well though. And as far as the thickness is concerned, it is thick, but that is why the ergo's work so well on this one - it is as wide as it is tall, and feels just fantastic in the hand. Darn it guys, now I'm gonna' have to hunt another one down.

This thread introduced me to the Lil Sub Hilt. Just landed one in a trade and man this thing is a beast.

It's a beatiful knife, quirky as Spyderco is known to do. Pocket clip seems to be a miss though.

I have the Lil version and am still blown away by it. It feels and lookslike a custom knife. A little hefty, but it’s not a issue for me. The polished g10 and the way everything is integrated is perfect.

It’s funny I was just considering starting a thread about this, like “Underarated Spyderco” or “Knife you didn’t think you’d love until you handled it.”

If this were ever discontinued I’d buy another. Maybe I need the full size to compliment it...

I just got the Lil a couple of days ago and I will agree with others that the craftsmanship is ridiculous. The fit and finish on this knife is as good as any custom I have handled and I’ve handled some nice ones over the years. It’s a bit heavy and a bit wide and kind of has the feel of “pocket jewelry” but I find myself loving carrying and using it anyway.

This is a beautiful knife and work of art. Superb craftsmanship! Wish they'd left the holes on the bolsters off, really detracts from the knife.

Do you mean the clip holes? Haha , I've never even noticed them until you brought it up. So minor.

It would take a lot more than three tiny screw holes to diminish the pure beauty of the Vallotton. At least for me.

Don't own one for a few reasons (heavier than I prefer, shallow carry, thick blade). No question that is a fantastic looking knife. Based on appearance and uniqueness it could be a custom. The appearance of both of these keep calling to me.

it is awkward in my left hand. feels like i might open the lock without the scale to block the lock bar and my finger. right hand use no issue for me. still a great knife.
