How influenced are you by .....

..... the comments & pictures posted by members of this site? I'm sure we all take into account the good, bad, and ugly of the knives that get posted here, but how much does that influence your desire to actually buy, or not buy, any particular knife? Are you a disciplined buyer, who always knows what knife you want to buy next? Or do you just have kind of a general idea of what knife you'd be interested in, and use the pics/info to help make a final decision? Or are you like a bumblebee, flitting from flower to flower, and whatever knife you happen to be looking at at the moment could very well turn out to be your next purchase? Not sayin' one style is better than another ..... ;)

I must admit that I don't fall into the "disciplined" category - probably much more of the second & third type of buyer. How about you?

I think I'm a pretty disciplined buyer. I have a lot of knives compared to your average Joe, but my stash is pretty small compared to a lot of the members here. I tend to stick with what I like, I won't buy a knife just because it's new or different. That said, this place does have a pretty strong influence on me. All the pictures I see posted expose me to styles, makers, and brands that I might not have considered before. Sometimes I see a knife and I want one just like it.

I typically know what I like, but have to say, I am influenced a fair bit by the postings etc. here.

I've definately been prompted to pursue certain patterns based on what I've seen posted here. This summer I went on a real stockman/sowbelly bender because of some real influencial threads.

A good bit. Have to say I was disappointed with my Northfield (may have been a fluke), but very happy with my GEC's and would not have gone with either if I had not seen the comments here.

I trust the gang here and they are usually spot on, we all have our favorites and I do not expect someone else's to match mine.

I know I have met more than a few custom makers on the forums whose work I enjoy and in a few cases I may not have had that chance otherwise.

As far a friendships ... priceless ones have developed because of this place.

I've purchased three customs since joining here and have more on order, all of these decisions have been influenced by the comments and suggestions of members of this forum. And I should point out that I have yet regret any of the advice I've followed.

PERFECT!
I like the word bender..as it describes fully what probablly most of us would do if we could do!!
I am heavily influenced by what I see and read in this forum...Im new at this ( folders) , I hardly look at fixed blades now...and if my non-existing budget would allow room for more...I would have knives arriving daily ...each time I look in here...which is several times daily, I need to buy knives...

somebody please help me

Somewhat influenced. I am not all that much of an impulse buyer though. I do try to restrain myself.

You know sometimes I think they should change the name of this site from bladeforums.com to temptation_island_for_knifenuts.com :D

I'm not a very disciplined buyer. I do have a wish list, but I always end up buying something different and often this is caused by reading on BF.

That chap on here....what's his name?.....it'll come to me in a moment.

Ah yes! I remember..... JACKKNIFE.....that's him.

He's got a LOT to answer for with his Peanuts and Sodbusters and SAK's and Opinels and ......well..... he's just got a lot to answer for, that's all I'm say'in!

:);)

I've been influenced my what I've read in this room many times, but not that much about what knife I buy.

The one thing it has influenced me into buying is a few Custom Slip Joints. If I had never came to this room I'm pretty sure Case would have done me fine. But boy am I glad of that influence, because i would have never knew the joy of having a micarta shadow pattern(made the way I want it) if not for this great room.

I'm with jacknife. But, Carl isn't the only one that has a lot to answer for. I admit to getting the bumble bee syndrome at times, but I really want to experience the patterns I haven't owned before. And these guys just keep showing me stuff I wasn't even aware of.

For instance, that Remington Bullet thead is going to be a problem. I just feel it in my bones. FLymon kept flashing that Texas Jack up here. Guess what, I had to have one (glad I bought it to by the way).. Then that ubiqutous Sway Back Jack that almost seemed to me to be a prerequisite for membership here since there was so many of them.

Just call me bumblybee....

Truth be told I'm very influenced by the custom collectors in this subforum because they know what they're talking about.A good review or recomendation of a maker or his knives is all I need usually and I've placed a lot of orders just on recomendations I've gotten here. And I must thank you guys for that.

I've picked up some knives based on what I've seen and read here. Since I don't have a decent knife store within reasonable driving distance, almost all of my purchases are from on-line sellers. Being able to see photos and read what people think about particular knives has been a tremendous help. It has also helped because I don't keep particularly close track of new stuff coming out, so I often learn about it here.

Well, Dennis Strickland is a bad influence for sure! ;)

Yeah, he was for me too for a time, but he's so relentless that I've thrown in the towel! ;) DENNIS WINS !!! :D

Seriously, though, the wisdom of the members here has a large influence on me, my thinking, as well as my knife pursuits, especially as to the custom makers who carry reputations of excellence in both quality and customer relations. You just can't beat doing business with good people.

Impulse, impulse, impulse that's me. AND YOU GUYS DON'T HELP. Just kidding I love everyone's help deciding what to buy. I do like to get a bit of other's insight before I buy but sometimes I just buy.

Hi,

All of you guys are a bad influence!:D

Honestly though, this forum has influenced me by broadening my horizons. I would never have known about many of the knives that have been shared here, in photos and stories.
