And let's throw Cru-Wear in there, if I may.
My CruWear PM2 kicks my MagnaCut knives out of my pocket for at least a week every time I'm looking through my daily carry rotation chest and see it sitting there. Every time.
I need to get ahold of a CruCarta Military2.
I had a cruwear Delica 4 that dulled easier than I thought it would. I only broke down a couple of boxes with it.My CruWear PM2 kicks my MagnaCut knives out of my pocket for at least a week every time I'm looking through my daily carry rotation chest and see it sitting there. Every time.

A Buck 112 in Magnacut has been my most used knife over the last 2+ years. I've always liked S35VN's combination of toughness, ability to hold an edge, and relative ease of sharpening. I think Magnacut takes all those properties to the next level.
I was actually going to post this. I only have one Magnacut, and it's a SHF covered in a black coating...so, not the best example of the use of the steel. It holds an edge really well, but it's way thicker than what it needs to be. Oddly enough, I'm carrying it today because I forgot my Recon One at my office, and it was the first thing I fished out of the drawer.
Now with Cruwear I have 3 Adamas, a Shootout, and a Para 3. I just really, really like this steel.
My next Treat Yo'self is going to be a Military 2 in Crucarda.
I would (gently!) say that the SHF being thicker than it needs to be is more an SHF design thing, than a flaw as far as they're concerned! LOL
I think the CruWear Adamas' (which you and I both have multiples of) are amazing knifes, but they are similarly thick, for the same reasons as the SHF. Good chunky, stout knives and sometimes that's just what's called for!
"Online" is a big place. Can you narrow it down a bit?Wasn’t there some discussion online about MagnaMax not being corrosion resistant enough to be used in a Salt model? While very high, not to the level of those steels.
Oh i totally get that about the SHF being thick by design. I get it. it's like a Sebenza on steroids. I just feel that the edge on the SHF is built to be robust and tough and not thin and slicey. Totally valid. I mean i come from the khukuri world. I like em chunkyI just feel that the edge of my Adamas knives feel thinner. I'm not sure if that has to do with them actually being thinner or that the edges taper back more due to a wider blade.
Regardless, i really do like Magnacut. I plan on getting more. I do plan on getting it in thinner stock and uncoated. I don't have a bad thing to say about it![]()
Even if so, it will have performance to rival K390 and still be far more rust resistant. Win win.Wasn’t there some discussion online about MagnaMax not being corrosion resistant enough to be used in a Salt model? While very high, not to the level of those steels.
I mean if you can count on two companies to dial in the perfect heat treat, it's BUCK & Spyderco. I've yet to get a MC Buck, but it's on my short list. This is word for word, my own thoughts on MC as compared to S35Vn (another favorite steel of mine).
I recall back when MagnaCut was announced, and at the time I was like "Meh, I love S35Vn, CTS-XHP, 3V, D3V, CruWear, and M4. I don't need any of this new steel."
Then we hit BLADEShow that year and MC was starting to trickle out from various makers (at eye-watering prices), and I picked up one or two knives in MC and gave them a shot. Huh....ok, then. Not bad...not bad....
Fast forward to today where something like 90% of my large EDC rotation knives are all in MagnaCut, thanks to how much MC has proliferated into the marketplace. I actually still love all my other knives (and the steels they come in!), but yeah, MC is just the lowest hassle steel out of all of 'em for my usecases.
